TPMS system removal?

Anybody figured out a way to remove or stop the TPMS system? I see most of you have aftermarkey rims, did you get new sensors installed or did you figure out a way to disable the system? I am looking at a few sets of wheels, normal DD rims and tires and a set of MT tires and maybe some snows. The added expense of the sensors is huge for each set of rims and just seems like a waste of money. I have never had TPMS before and dont really care much about it.

There is something you can buy that will allow you to swap between two tires with sperate TPMS. At the moment I am drawing a blank on the name (blame the beer).

I myself had my TPMS swapped into my new rims. I figured I would not go back to my stock wheels any time soon.

I just ignore the light. I put steelies/Blizzaks on mine and left the sensors in the stock wheels - too expensive to swap every winter or to buy another set.

Interesting, the light resets as soon as I park next to the wheels with the sensors in them.

My light is always on and I thought it would be annoying but honestly, I dont even notice it anymore. I think of it as the "you have sweet tires and wheels" reminder light. :trophy:

I had some Black Ultra Gauntlets installed and the shop charged me $5 per wheel to transfer the sensors over. Its like 4 months now and no problems! Its a pretty easy process that any reputable shop can do. i wouldn't spring for new sensors if i were you unless you plan to have two sets of wheels such as a setup for winter and another for the rest of the year.

along with the light isnt there suppose to be a buzzer or chime warning that lasts for a minute or so on startup? Do you guys not hear this?

Couldn't agree more with Philsey above. I too have a set of blizzaks w/o the TPMS and the light stays on. As soon as I swap back to the OEM set, the light disappeared.
Don't waste the money on anothe set of sensors.

Not that I've noticed. After I've left my garage, maybe in 15 miles (guessing) the light blinks a little while, then stays on. Never noticed a chime. Now the $%^&*# seatbelt chime ... that's another matter.

I just bought new ones on Ebay for cheap as they are like $52 a set or $13 a piece. Part number we need is PMV-107J. You'll also need the service kit for another $11 for all 4 . I think it's a 216 kit.
Just do a search for PMV-107J and TPMS Service kit 216 on Ebay.

As for just turning off the Warning light...On the 4th Gens, they just had to ground a wire from the ECU so the light wouldn't light.The TPMS ECU is on the drivers side,just forward and up from the brake pedal.It looks like the green wire going to the instrument panel, or combination meter as Toyota calls it, is the one to either ground or make an open. Wiring gurus need to pitch in......

Easiest ,should be the green wire from pin 5 on the TPMS ECU F7 connector that needs grounded to shut the light off

I take it the instrument cluster is sealed and breaking the solder point on the back of the light might kill the board? So much hassle for such a useless part.. I think if somebody doesnt notice they have blown out a 70 series tire, they should ride the bus.

I grounded the ECU that was located in the passenger footwell. No more light. Having said that, I just installed new 35's and put the TPMS sensors back in.

If you need details on grounding I think you should be able to find them in a serach here or Toyota120.com. If you have no luck let me know and I'll chase it up for ya.

Thanks. BTW for grounding a wire, you guys mean cut it and cap it right? Not actually run it to a physical ground, but go to ground eg shorted right?
