dont you love it when you get in your car its a lil colder then normal in low 50's (i live in Cal) and you is on but when you look nothing is out of the ordinary. guessing it'a the spare?tpms. false alarm when you expect the worse.

That would be my guess. Unless you carry a compressor or rely on the AAA to change your flat I'm not sure it's a "false alarm".


Depending on which tire you have in the spare rack you can fill it to between 35 and 44psi. I say fill it to the max sidewall pressure and that way you can go a long time and be reasonably sure that a TPMS warning is real. Just my 2cents.

Quite common and annoying but I consider it a good backup to keeping up with your tire pressure on your own. Beside's, it should only happen once per year. And let's face it; how often DO we check our spare?

Or would you rather have the spare unsafely low when you have that flat in the middle of bumfuk?

FWIW, "looking" at a tire is useless. Buy a good digital tire pressure gauge (if you don't already have one), keep it in the car and use it... often.

Just put some air in my spare for the exact same reason. Started to panic thinking i had a slow puncture, luckily i read this and quickly checked the spare - 27psi. Topped it up to 35 psi so i don't have to get it down again any time soon - providing i dont get a flat lol. thanks.

I bought my 2005 4Runner used about a month ago and temps were still in the 90s. The first cold day and I get the warning. I check all my tires and spare and its 27psi. I pump them all up to 35psi and the light goes out. That was a couple of weeks ago and now the temperatures are warm and balmy and this morning and going to work I notice the TPMS light is one. The tires look good at work but I don't have a tire gauge on board. When I get home I'll check them and the spare. If the pressures are OK can any tire dealer determine which tire has a bad sensor and replace it? I remember having my tires replaced at Costco in June and they told me the TPMS sensors were pretty cheap and they'd replace them as needed but didn't need to. You don't have to go to a Toyota dealer to get this done?
