( I'm gettig sick of working on this truck )
I do body work, but I wont do my Runner
til' it's runs right. & the back window works.
& the a.c. works. & so on.....& on...& on.....
Thanks for any input.

hi,

i have an '88 4runner that i got in may.

had crazy work done on the engine - top and bottom - basically a full rebuild. not to mention clutch, fuel pump, etc...

ran for 500 miles no issues.

brought it back in to have timing adjusted and when i went to pick it up...

had a hard time starting. couldn't idle and the get up and go - got up and went!!!

because of time couldn't get it looked at for a few weeks.

turns out the tps went bad.

original part ate it after 225k miles!

replaced with toyota oem and runs like a dream.

go oem.

Or just disconnect / remove it.

I had trouble finding one to fit my very early production '85. Realized it ran fine with the TPS disconnected. Ran even better with the TPS removed (I could adjust the idle down). I believe it's mainly a fuel conservation feature, and I still get 20/25 with knobby 31s.

How are you getting that kind of mileage?
I get nowhere near that and I have done all I can think of to improve it.

I don't know, 230k miles, tuned according to Chiltons but nothing tricky. I got it only a few months ago. I did notice a difference when I went through it a few times with seafoam and marvel mystery oil and flushed and filled diffs & T/C fluids and lubed everything.

I have heard good things about seafoam but it is hard to find around here. I do plan on doing all the fluid changes to synthetic when I get the chance.
