Traction Control

I have a 2001 Limited that I just picked up. Its my first Toyota. I knew it had traction control and figured it would be similar to my Acura TL in function. I made a right hand turn this morning from a stop into traffic, when I did the inside rear wheel slipped and traction control engaged. It completely cut power for a few seconds, but seemed like much longer. This is not the feeling I want when trying to enter a busy road, this thing is already slow enough on acceleration.

My question is does this system seem like its functioning normally? If so, I am going to disable it. Never had it on any truck or SUV before and I won't miss it.

That's the VSC (Vehicle Stability control) kicking in. It pulls the throttle to stop the wheelspin. Very annoying on snow and ice. There's an easy mod to disable it when desired. I turn it off when it snows. The mod also turns of the traction control.
