Boo Toyota!!!!

We got a big snow yesterday and my Urban Runner is so not fin to drive int he snow. The traction control went crazy....I would floor it and it would not tach up! It wouldnt slide around or nothing. Gosh knowing this I will order my next one in a 2wd. Is there a way to turn it off?

Thats the whole idea of traction control... It keeps you IN control. With the level of sophistication in modern traction control systems, especially the Bosch designed one in our 4Runners, you cannot drive better than it can. Wheel slip is a bad thing on snow or ice, it tries to minimize this so hockey mom can safely drive her kids to hockey practice. The systems do a great job, accept it.

If you would like to defeat it, simply press the center diff lock button on the left side of the steering column. This actually does not defeat the traction control, it defeats the skid control, which is the one that cuts engine power and tries to stop all the wheels. The true "traction" control on our 4Runners is called ATRAC and it only tries to keep the wheels going at the same speed, and in essence will help with stupid fun things like brodies and power slides. It does not cut power at all and makes sure that all tires break loose, instead of just one.

And 2WD versions have skid control as well, but I don't think you can defeat it. Stick with 4WD

It's not the traction control, it's the VSC. There are at least two hacks documented for the 4th gen. Google is your friend.

It's an '08. Read the manual. It'll teach you about the VSC off button; how and when to use it.
