Traction control...

So I'm new to the forum so I have plenty of questions...my previous being "tire adivice" Anyway, my next is on the traction control system. Im not sure if mine is working properly. I have an 02. When I'm going from a stop to start and the wheels start to spin...say on ice, the traction control light will blink and i hear a noise that sounds almost like anti-lock brakes are kicking in. Somewhat of a chatter and it seems to cut the power to wheels until they regain traction. The traction control doesnt beep like it does when you are driving and lose traction but instead it chatters and there is a noticable loss of power to the wheels...is the normal? :fishing:

It does that on my moms Discovery 2. Thats what traction control sounds like.
 
Man I cant stand that...I used to drive an Audi with quattro and the awd was soo passive; that thing was unstopable traction wise...but I needed a truck. Thanks for the heads up man. I was concerned but now im glad i didnt pay toyota to "look" at it. It definatley took some getting used to as I would be pullling out into traffic and lose all power to my wheels due to this "clicking noise" I was like :wtf:. But I guess that brings us back to my original post...the tires. Obviously necessary.
 
the computer will cut the engine power as well as apply the rear brakes(or all 4 if you are in 4wd) in attempt to regain traction. it will only beap at you if you are not traveling the intended path based on stering angle(ie. fish tailing)

if you dont like it their is a simple mod that turns it off. search "vsc off" on this fourm or on yt
 
Thanks Wes. That Def. shed some light on the situation. As long as i know my truck is ok than im ok with it. I like how it prevents me from fish tailing (although I do like to play) only time is frustrating is from a stop to start.

I have an 02 as well. The chatter is the traction control and the beeping is the skid control.
