Trade 2004 for 2006 or 7? A deal I can't refuse.

I'm meeting with a dealer tomorrow to discuss trading my 2004 SE with 67,000+ miles for a new 2006 or 2007.

I have mixed emotions as I don't think Toyota has changed anything significant since my 2004 was made.

What do y'all think?

I am concerned about replacing all the extras which I would want on the new 4Runner.

How much more $$ are they wanting on top of the trade in? Basically you'll be loosing alot of money in the exchange. I'd suck it up and keep your 04. You can't always have the best, simply because there will always be something better the next year. If money isn't an issue, do it because the 06's are so much better :clap: :zoom:

I don't know how much for the trade. Their service department told the sales end that mine was is such good shape that it would resell well. So, we will see tomorrow.

Frankly though, I just don't see that there are sufficient differences between the model years to make a trade. I would want exactly the same SE with the same options. Since I remain quite happy with mine.

The single biggest benefit to such a trade would be to reset my odometer back to zero. However, 67,000+ miles is not really that many for a 4Runner.
 
That new V8 with VVTI is pretty nice from what I hear. Also the projector head lights would do better with the HID kit you purchased. Power seats on the SE are offered now, but other than those 3 things, I don't think there really have been any drastic improvements compared to your 2004. To be honest, I think the new SE looks funny with the round roof rails and the god awful black chrome grill. I know you've sunk a lot of money on your current ride already so I say keep it.

You'll take a hit with a trade in (especially this early). It seems you're already content with what you have and cannot justify the new models' features to warrant a new purchase. Asides that, you would have to redo all the mods you've done already, an added cost in iteself (should you decide to i.e lift, etc). 67000 mi. is still pretty "young" for a Toyo. Sure, I too would love an 06 to replace my 05 but the cycle will always repeat itself as time goes by. Newer things will never stand still. Imho, though, the 05 styling is bit more aggressive but I like both styles anyway. At any rate, good luck with your decision. If you do get a new 06 that will give you a reason to buy a new MacBook Pro and replace your existing Apple sticker on your new ride. :p
 
I had thought about trading for a v8 when they were offering incentives, but I think with gas prices at 2.50+, trade-in value might be even lower than what you think.
 
I'll let all y'all know tomorrow. Doubtful that I will be tempted, but maybe I will.

BTW: They have a new Taco there all decked-out with the new ARB goodies. That new front bumper is sure calling me. Talk about well made.

So they're talking about a 2007 now?...You can get a 2007?...It's just the same 06 (model) just as a 2007 right?... I dunno.

I know we're supposedly going to get a 2009 approx. that year. Right?..I keep looking online to see spy shots or some info on a new info on the next gen. but to no avail, could not find any.
I love my 06 and I wanna keep a newer model without seeing a newer model come out and feel old ya know?
Does anyone possibly know now when we're gonna get a next gen.
I know there's a thread about the whole thing, but I was just wondering if the next gen. would come out for a while. I just don't want to have a newer 4Runner driving next to me for a while.

if money is no issue, check out the new cadillac escalade. if money is indeed issue, keep your 2004 t4r.

as much as i love my t4r, i'd never trade it in for what amounts to be basically the same car.
 
I would wait to see if the new V8 will be offered in 2007/8. You have all that work in your truck! I would only upgrade for something more then some cosmetic updates.

Add up how much you've spent on the vehicle, deprecation, mods, labor, etc. Add in how much to get the new 4Runner to your current mod level. I assume your'll move the coilovers to the new vehicle, or leave them on? You don't have the X-REAS system to put back on?

3 years of ownership is really just an expensive lease. It took about 4 years before it made sense to trade in my last vehicle on the 4Runner. I plan to keep the 4Runner much, much longer.


However, it is nice to start over fresh. Is the Taco a better vehicle for your needs?

Forgot one thing...MEMORY SEATS! Of course, i think that this feature is only on the Limited model.

As neowig suggested, you may want to get something different just to change the flavor. If you don't have a big family, then maybe consider the new FJ Cruiser. Or get the Limited 4runner this time instead of SE. If you're gonna change, then make it worth it!

Like suggestions above, you're gonna get destroyed on trade-in. These dealers do this all the time...they make you think that they really want your old 4runner...to peak your interest (aka to get you into their showroom). In the end, they will screw you on your trade-in or your new vehicle or through financing.

No matter how you slice or the dealer spins, you will lose money on the trade in.

Keep what you have and drive it until the wheels fall off.
 
I was at the dealer 2 weeks ago thinking that I wanted to trade in my '05 SE for an '06 SE same color and trim. (I got my '05 last August.) I'm regretting that I didn't get 4WD and I wanted the electric seats, thicker window glass, the rear LED's and the front HID's. Also, I've put 20K on mine in 7 months. We bought 7 cars from this dealer last year. The dealer told me that he would do the trade for me, but that he thought I was crazy for doing it and that his suggestion was that I hang on to my '05 for 4 or 5 years and then come back. I don't know that I've ever had a sales guy talk me out of making a purchase.
 
Yeah, I know it's sad. I started with a '98 4Runner, went to an '02 Limited before I got to my current '05 SE. My brother got an '05 Matrix last March and traded that one in for a Tundra Limited 2 weeks ago and my sister also got an '05 Matrix and traded that one in for an '06 Camry when my brother got his Tundra. The dealer is trying to get rid of the '06 Camrys right now because they just released the new redesigned '07's that look a little like BMW's in the back. They look kind of neat, but since I got my first 4Runner, I hate cars now so I would never buy one. Those Matrix's were too small. My brother has a dog and my sister has a family.

I have an 04 SR5 with the V8 and was wondering if you can really feel(seat of pants) the difference between the 235hp V8 and the newer higher hp V8 in the 05/06 4Runners? Is it worth trading to get the newer V8 upgrades? Thanks.
