Trade in offer, what do you think?

Dealer logic:
I can afford to give you wholesale on your vehicle, if I sell mine to you at wholesale.
If I give you full trade-in value on your vehicle, I can knock $500 off [retail] sticker and still feel good about it.
If I give you retail value on your vehicle, you bet your dollar you will pay at least retail on mine!
FORD Store: The Raptor's sell for an amazing mark-up. I can most certainly step up on your trade and make it look like I am being generous. Either way, you will get the shaft on one end... or sometimes both...

Yes its all mind games to make you feel like youve got a great deal. No one ever wants to admit that theyve been shafted.

In 2007 wife traded in a beat up old ford focus and got 2000 for the trade. Apparently someone wanted to buy it real bad! Guess what she paid for a 07 Rav4? 37K in the end. Apparently the father in law knows how to make deals.

If it were me I would just trade it in. With the tax savings it would not be worth trying to get another 1K or so. No hassle with trying to sell it either. Just get the new truck and do not look back.

I have a 2017 TRD pro in super white. 8100 miles and only upgrade is c4 sliders. Dealer offered me $39,500 for trade-in. Kbb his higher but also seems unrealistic. What do you guys think?
Private party is the way I've always gone. Cash to the dealer and let them know you are serious... It might take walking away a couple times but the Raptors aren't moving super fast yet due to the allocation mark up and you will definitely leave some money on the table if you trade it in. With the amount of miles your PRO has you should list it on craigslist or whatever for 45 and work your way down to 43. The dealer will play minds games like other people have stated and they aren't going to lose out on both ends. Usually you are better off without the trade in. Just my .02!

But with trade in I'll be get an almost $4k tax savings. I'd realistically have to sell it for $43k to match that. That $39.5k is what they'd give me for my 4runner even if I just sold it to them. They haven't told me what the lowest they'll go on the raptor yet. So they aren't trying funny business with the numbers on the trade in.
Not sure how it works there here in arkansas as long as you sell it within 30 days of purchasing another car you get to deduct the sale price off of the taxes anyway.

There's no way they'd get $9k over a new one. I was $43k out the door on mine.

This is normal for SoCal. A brand new SR5 goes for 43 + TTL. I'd sell private party to get more $$ and then buy a gently used Raptor and claim it as a gift so there's no sales tax. Just TL not TTL. You'll come out thousands on top. Unless you WANT a new raptor. Then you might as well just throw 5k+ in a trash can somewhere and then tell me where.

Raptors have a 15k markup here in Hawaii.

I'm sure I'll get roasted on here for this, but, I'm working numbers with a dealer for a 2017 raptor in White. To honest about the 4runner I'm just kind of underwhelmed by it. Had a Tacoma before this and miss having a truck. But being 6'2" it felt cramped and the tundra is so outdated and outclassed right now I'm not interested in that.

Strange...I'm 6'3" 210lb and don't feel cramped at all. I felt cramped in the 4Runner with a sunroof due to the decreased headroom, which is why I didn't mind that the TRDP doesn't have the sunroof.

That being said, the Raptor is an awesome truck. I see a few in the parking lot at work and they always catch my eye.

Or, leaks associated with basically cutting a huge hole in your roof!

Some people love them, sunroofs hold nothing for me. Added complexity, weight, mentioned loss of headroom, cost, and all the potential headaches, think Volvo sunroofs and water inside the vehicle…

Some people love them, where I live the weather just isn't conducive to open tops/sunroofs, too hot 10 months out of the year. Very happy the TRD Pro didn't come with a sunroof.

Sorry I guess I was a little vague. I felt cramped in the Tacoma, the 4runner I feel fine in.

Shit looks like I should post it in socal on Craiglist at $48k then and let them talk me down haha. And an update for everyone. The raptor sold 30 minutes ago for $79k at a $10k markup.

Crap for that markup id fly across the country and drive home and save the 10k
