Probably bought used like 2 yrs ago I'm thinking. I just bought my '06 with 33k miles for $23.5k and financed $15k.

You're right,... just did the math for the 4Runner at 265/65/R17,... $223/ea X 4, with install and disposal fees, less $100 coupon,... looks like $810 out the door. I do know, that I paid <$500 for the MS/LTXs on my 93 Yota P/U 4WD ExCab Delux in '09... kept the receipt.

You can do way better on all of the prices you were quoted.
keep your toyota as far away from the stealership and do fluids and spark plugs yourself. Find a good toyota/lexus mechanic to do the timing belt and look at tires that last longer than 40k. Consider michelin ltx ms of yokohama geolander at-s. You will easily get double the mileage out of both!
You're correct - I bought it a little over 2 years ago and financed 18K. After looking at my statement, I still owe around 8K. I was forced to purchase my current 04 after my 03 was totaled in a wreck by some punk and I got slightly screwed by the insurance. I picked up a certified used vehicle with 73K on the odometer.

Me too, Trade or stay?
I'm not sure if this is considered Hijacking, but I'm in a similar situation. My 2005 V8 4x4 Sport drives 36 miles to work from Miramar to Camp Pendleton Monday through Friday. So 72 miles a day at what the computer tells me 16.4 MPG. It has 73,000 miles and and the full platinum warranty. I heard the magical number for dealer trade in value was 80,000 miles and after that you take a hit. I have also learned the dealer would ding me 1,000 off the trade in value for the V8 motor. My payoff is 20k, and last time I checked the value I was at 16,000 thanks to the V8 "ding". Oh I bought the 4runner in September of 08, I'm not the original owner.
I used to tow jetski/motorcycles in DC and plow through snow in Oregon. I'm not doing any of that now. Do I keep my baby or look for a 08-09 v6, or a 5th Gen with better gas milage? I'm never going for the full platinum warranty again. I don't need it. I know for a fact I can sell that back at the time of trade in. For scheduled inspections, as long as the fluids get changed, you don't need half of that extra crap, at least done at their prices. The service reps (not mechanics) are paid by commission. 50 bucks for a cabin air filter? Seriously? That used to be part of the deal.
I digress. Keep my baby or trade in? I'm set on a 4runner for life. I counter my own arguments with the thought I'm being cheap when it comes to the gas I'm burning with an engine I'm not using to its potential.

Keep it, gas mileage difference between V8 and V6 is slim (1-3 mpg). If you want something more effecient you should buy a Prius
What's this talk about "dinging" you $1000 for trading in a V8? I'd think the V8 would be more in demand as there's more V6's out there....hmmmm

I own 2 Toyota 4runners, both V8's. I see the maintenence as an investment, and i never ignore it or let it slide by trying to talk myslf into the "its just a ploy by them to get my $$!!" bull. I dont have the ability to do what others do, which is do it themselves, but ive always had the local Toyota dealership maintain it for me, and theyve never steered me wrong.
I say bite the bullet, take the hit and drive it another 100k, problem-free.
What you CAN do is call the other Toyota dealerships and get their best price and work them against each other for your business! I did and had our 03 V8's 90k service done, as well as a new timing belt and new water pump. The head tech asked how the HELL did i get alllll that work for $1300! There's my not-so-secret method.

The dealership in San Diego said they would have to take 1,000 off the value of my trade in because its harder to move a V8. I felt more like they wanted a better spread between trade in and total cost of the 4runner I was looking at. Better commission I assume. I walked out because I wasn't ready to buy, and that added fuel to the fire. I don't feel like I should lose value on my 4runner because it is a V8 if i didn't make that clear.

Let me be clear. I'm not saying don't get your periodic maintenance done. I'm saying the dealership wants you to use them because the service staff (not the grease monkey maintainers) are commission based. If you use the dealership service department don't be afraid to say no to some of the things they want to perform no matter how pushy they can sometimes be.
There are other options for service. If you are worried about not voiding your warranty make sure to log your maintenance inspections in the service book.
***I don't want to offend anyone here who happens to be commission based. Everyone has to earn their keep someway. I get it. However when you are the consumer and you can tell this very rude and pushy person makes their money on how much extra they get you to spend, yeah.

If you buy the timing belt kit it comes with the water pump and all the install parts.

I would say keep it!
If money is the reason, it is not worth spending a bunch of extra money on a newer one if yours just needs some routine maintenance. Look around and consider an independent shop. My 2004 v6 90,000 mile svc. cost around $350. The v6 does not have a timing belt though. They just mainly replaced the plugs, fluids, and checked it over.
Purchased Yoko's AT's from Tirerack. They were the cheapest and the ratings were decent. Had 5 tires mounted, balanced and installed at a local shop on their slow day for $20 and a 12 pack of beer. No they were not buddies of mine!
MPG is no excuse to purchase a newer car. For every 1 mpg you save approx. $11.60 a month at $3.50/gal driving 20,000 miles per year. I know that' a lot of numbers to throw around, but figure it up for yourself.
We had a Toyota Matrix before that would average 28 mpg. Our T4R averages 18 mpg. Figured we spend $116 per month more on gas. Well worth it for the safety of my family and it is the best vehicle we ever owned!!!

Yeah, tires and fluids are going to come around in a new vehicle, as well. ANd skip the dealer maintenance as most of the price is for looking at stuff and saying its OK (check..., check..., check...).
I'd avoid the General Grabbers. Mine had half tread when I bought the truck used, and they only lasted another 10000 miles.

I purchased ours new not quite 4years ago. I've learned to appreciate the vehicle more and more as each year passes. Usually after owning a vehicle this long I've already discovered a number of things I don't like or have grown weary of, but not our 4Runner. This one is a definite keeper. Just my two cents.

I just put 1000 bucks into mine doing all the work myself, and it still needs tires and the tailgate doesn't work and now the dreaded vsc lights are on again!
It has less than 90k, but at this point I wish that I had used the 2 thousand that it's going to cost me to get something newer.

Keep it and service it new vehicles are way to expensive my 5th Gen Trail was costing me 600 a month for a payment I wish I would have never traded my almost paid for 04 SR5. Just my .02
