Traded in the sports car

For a new 4Runner. I struggled to get rid of my 350Z, but it made a lot of sense. That and I really like the new vehicle. I ended up getting a Sport V-8 4WD in Galactic Grey. Thought about either locating or ordering a Titanium as I like the way that color looks on the 4Runner, but the Galactic Grey one was in stock and I liked it quite a bit too. Plus, I haven't seen any around here in that color (I live in a reasonably smaller area) and it was equipped to what I was wanting (6 disc, sunroof, etc).

Anyway, I am pretty happy with my purchase. Threw some all weather mats in it last week, but haven't done anything else to it. Not sure that I will. I like it as it is. I am sure that will change in time.

I don't have any pictures yet, but hoping it snows some more soon so I can get some.

I gave up my 350hp '93 Eclipse in favor of the 4Runner since off roading has been cheaper than the dragstrip over the last few years and I don't get tickets in the 4Runner.

Ha! You almost sound like me, but I traded in the sports sedan(BMW 325xi) for the 4Runner. Baby seat didn't fit well in the BMW. You're in IL too, we just got our Sport 4R Tuesday in the same color. We had heated leather added at the dealer though, nice mod if you ask me. Have fun and Welcome to this forum

Thanks for the replies.

Basically, I had 2 cars. A slightly older one for road trips and taking the dog around, and then the 350Z. The 350Z was a fun car, but it just wasn't all that practical. I am single and don't have any kids, so that wasn't the motivation. Just really didn't like the fact that my nice car stayed in the garage anytime I made a road trip (which I do a decent amount). Plus, it really wasn't big enough to take what I want on road trips either (including my yellow lab).

So, I went from 2 cars to one and got the 4Runner which I have always liked quite a bit. So far, I haven't regretted my decision at all.

Congrats! And if you ask me, I think you made a very wise color choice. Not that I'm biased or anything. I too got rid of a 2-door sports coupe for the 4Runner and couldn't be happier.

ILL here as well, about 1 month ago (28th of dec) I went and traded in my 3000GT for a 4 runner.
I tell you what getting off a on/off ramp at 65 in the sports car is nothing, Wasnt thinking and did it with the 4runner.
I had to slow down alot, but 45 seems to turn and handle really well for the size and weight of it.

I drove the V6 and the V8, I really liked the smoothness of the V8 and the torque taking off. I am very happy with the 4 runner, Miss the gas milage of the sports car.

I couldn't survive without my 4Runner, and I really enjoy driving it, especially after recently getting new tires and Bilstein shocks, but driving my 93 MR2 always puts a smile on my face. Wouldn't want to give that up.

4Runners are great for big dogs (got 2), two seaters, no.

Same here, I had a 97 M3 with little miles, under 30k, after the kid came bought the 4Runner and couldn't be happier.

I can feel the pain of you (young?) guys that have to get rid of your beloved sports car to get a rig that's more 'practical' for your kids, spouse, whatever.
20++ years ago my street car was a pristine 1963 Porsche 356B, and I also had a race-purpose '73 911 with a 3 liter, 300 hp engine, roll cage, great suspension mods, etc.
Then my second wife got pregnant.
Bye bye both Porsches, hello Volvo station wagon. I kept that damn Volvo after the kids grew up, and their mom was now my ex.

The good news is, after saving for 3 years I got my pristine '86 911 8 years ago, and last month I got my new 4Runner.

My point is, have hope for the future. There will be plenty of great sports cars for you out there when you're able to afford them and a new 4Runner, and you'll still be young enough to enjoy both.

That's the plan. I could pull it off now, but I don't think having 2 vehicle payments makes any sense. Would rather put my money into other things like retirement, some stock, fixing up my house and paying more on my mortgage, etc.

However; I am planning on getting another sports car in 3 to 4 years. Not sure what I will get, but I am thinking a Vette or maybe even a Porsche Caymen. Then again, models could change quite a bit between now and then and I may want something I don't even know about (a redesigned 350Z for instance).

I spent 8 months of research and screened over 80 used 911s, all up and down the West Coast before I found my perfect Carrera, with only 13,000 miles on her.
I learned how to do it. I'm willing to mentor members on this forum who are serious about getting a great used Porsche.

I definitely wouldn't say those are the only 2 I would consider. Not even close. I do like the way they both look, but I am sure there will be several different vehicles I will consider. A preowned 911 would certainly head towards the top of the list if it's in the price range I am looking for and I found the right one. Obviously, there are many factors that could change that plan drastically between now and then too.

I gave up a Jaguar S-Type R for my new Runner, although I sometimes miss the car, when I take the T4R in for maintenance (Oil changes) I really don't miss the Jag.

I was in the same boat! I boosted mine, so it was pretty hard to get rid of. I have no regrets with this truck though. Im headed to Africa for a year, so another sports car will be mine! Im thinking a Z06

I just traded an 06 Mustang GT for my new 4Runner. We have a little one on the way and the Mustang just wasn't going to work obviously. I thought I would miss the power and the sound, but I am totally hooked on sitting higher up and being able to drive over stuff. Unfortunately tonight that was a nail in the mall parking lot :-( Looks my first mod will be a tire plug.
