Trading 4runner for FJC ...

FJs are great, I don't know why the closed minded folks here have to hate on them.

They each have their pros and cons. FJ is the off-road capability winner in many situations. 4Runner has way more room and comfort.

One is not better than the other. It just depends on your priorities. I wish I could morph my 4runner into an FJ or Jeep on tight technical trails. However, I love the fact that I can take a wheel off and put my very expensive mountain bike in the back of my 4runner and not have to worry when I stop at the store or work... Or load tons of stuff up for a long overland trip. The versatility of the 4runner is its strength.

I think a tendency to be close minded comes from pride of ownership and especially when it is what you have at the time. The vast majority on this forum obviously have 4Runners and thus are very supportive of what they drive and believe most or all other vehicles are inferior or they would have purchased differently. I and a few others are in the position Of owning both and have pride in both. Both serve their roles well and it ultimately comes down to what trips your trigger and best meets your needs and hobbies.

I did the opposite as well....

FJ for a T4R SR5 Premium. Absolutely no regrets!

Oh, start a savings account for windshields!

Aerodynamics' of a brick, slight wind will be felt while driving as well.
I could go on & on....

But, hey, if that's what you want to do, who are we to try to bring you to your senses!

FJ for a T4RTP and love it. He's right about the savings account for the windshield. The last person who replaced my windshield was happy that toyota stop making the FJ. He said is was a pain to replace.

If not mentioned yet, there is a thread in here for T4R owners who came from an FJC if you wanted some comparative opinions.
In my opinion the FJC is a lower-budget "no frills" truck (stock) compared to the more refined 4Runner.
I took the easy way......I have both.

Not sure why some of you think that honest opinions are hatred. I absolutely love Toyota trucks. Some are better than the others depending on how you see it.

OP you were initially looking for an FJ and ended up with a 4runner, now after 3k miles if you’re still at auto trader and searching for an FJ, that’s your answer. Deep down you want an FJ. Sometimes these wants are priceless. Recently lost 8k in a trade from a suburban to a highlander for the wife. End of the day i am happy she drives a highlander. I was in the market for a Tacoma, FJ or 4runenr a few weeks ago. Didn’t want a 4th Tacoma, as well as sometimes I like to drive my truck with the car seats and kiddos in the back for camping trips etc, which is why scratched off the idea of the FJ. 4runner so I don’t have to worry about a shell, I can take my kids with me on trips, etc. If this is something like your future might look like, FJ might not be it for you.

As far as opinions are concerned go to TW.com and all they love is their Tacoma’s, you’re on a 4runner forum, of course there will be bias opinions. I’m sure if i post the same thing in an FJ forum, they will tell me how wonderful it is. It’s all how YOU see it. End of the day do what YOU want.

Thx for all the replies. I was fantasizing about the FJ last night but when I woke up this morning I no longer feel excited. Im worried about the fact that it had 2 previous owners already. Also the mileage is kinda high for the price. Most of all its going to be a really dumb thing to do from a financial perspective. I guess I fell in love with the color since that red is just so rare and unique

I was originally looking at FJs since they were like cheaper 4runners that came with a manual, that was pretty cool. But the 4runner holds special meaning for me because my dad and I wanted 1 so bad back in 1998 when we were shopping for our very first SUV but we couldn't afford 1 so we ended up with a Isuzu Rodeo ... that car was pretty awful

Quite the contrary, their results are damn near perfect. It's an 07.

My memory failed me, it was only one portion of a recent test that it did poorly on. The topic was brought up in another thread which is the only reason I saw anything about the Pilot.

No matter which route you end up taking, it will be a good one, as you are still in a Toyota!

For me I LOVE the FJ. MISS it dearly. It just didnt work for me and the growing family anymore. If I could have kept it AND had the 4Runner, life would be grand. Both look awesome modded, and function perfectly and reliably in off road and on pavement situations. You have however seen the light on the financial implications, and the price of 2 owners, an unaccountable mileage.

Dude its funny you say that. Back in the 90's we as a family wanted the 4runner as well which back home then used to be the Surf. We couldnt afford it and ended up getting a Toyota Privia with Turbo Diesel in it Manual transmisison. Nice car but wasnt a 4runner.
