Trail Edition 7 Spoke Wheels

Does anyone have these 5th gen Trail Edition Wheels on their 3rd gen? I love the look of them and only found one picture so far. I was really stuck on staying with 16" wheels, but love these enough to switch to 17's. Please post any pics of 3rd gens with them. Thanks!

Look in the stock wheels on 3rd gens thread. There's at least 2 members here with them. I can't think of either of their usernames, but the one has an all white limited that's lifted with those rims. It looks killer.

That white limited one is the only one that I've seen so far... looks so sick. Plus I think they'd look mean on my sunfire red sport.

I really like the look of the newer OEM wheels on our 4Runners. It gives a nice look but doesn't jump out like some aftermarket wheels. I like the TRD FJ rims, those trail ones, the ones that came on the trails before those with all the round holes, and the 4th gen sport rims too. I think they all look great on 3rd gens.

Agreed. The TRD FJ Trail Teams are one of my favorites as well, but just getting too outplayed at this point. I have a set of the 4th gen sports on my 4th gen that I'm selling and thought about swapping, but the 4th gen sport needs 17's to clear the caliper and I'm not willing to buy another set just to swap them.

I wouldn't say they are getting too outplayed. I've only ever seen them once in real life in my area. You see them much more on the internet, but that is to be expected. The ones I saw were silver and on a desert dune 4Runner. It was kinda strange though because he hadn't done anything else to it other than the wheels... It may be different in your area though with the frequency. Around here people don't build up their Toyotas, it's all jeeps and 'Merican stuff... The good thing is we have some pretty good original wheels on our 3rd gens with the OEM 5 star wheels as well while we search for different options.

Ah well in that case, I agree- I thought you meant the black fj trail teams. I see too many of those, at least in my area. I do like the silver version and would definitely consider those, though you don't come across them often enough to purchase (aside from online/ brand new). But ya, the stock 5 stars are excellent and I'm currently running those right now (painted black by previous owner). I tend to only run OEM wheels as I like the looks of most and the fitment is perfect. I even ran TRD tundra 5 spokes on my previous Tacoma, painted gunmetal, and loved them. I'm just looking to switch things up and run these 7 spoke Trail wheels.

I agree with you on Toyota factory wheels - there are many good choices between 5-Stars, TRD rims, FJ Cruiser, Tacoma, and Tundra wheels. Eventually I will have 5 of the Silver FJ TRD wheels... right now I have a total of one. I have some thoughts on 3rd Gen wheel choices on this post of my build thread ... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/160445-surf-runner-build-2001-stellar-blue-limited-4wd-3.html#post1785442

I really do like the look of those FJ TRD wheels in silver, but just never see a used set for sale and I'm not really wanting to spend too much for a new set. I've actually found a set of the 5th gen Trail wheels w/tires for $400, but the owner wasn't willing to ship.
I agree that silver wheels look clean. I'm typically a black or gunmetal wheel guy, but with the color of my current vehicle I'm leaning towards the silver look to clean things out.

That's a pretty good deal from what I've been seeing. Too bad you couldn't make it work... I wonder how much you could get for the tires that are on it if you were to sell them and replace with tires you your choice. I'm sure they don't come with an A/T tire do they?

Ya if it was closer I would pay the full asking price and still feel good about it. From the factory they come with Dunlop Grandtrek I believe, so I'd definitely swap tires over time. But if I score a set with good tires I'd either sell them or run them down depending on funds left.

This is sick! Are those the stock center caps or did you swap them? And if you don't mind me asking, what'd you pay for the set of wheels?

I had to do some modifying of the stock center cap to add the TRD insert.

I kinda got a ridiculous deal on them...500.00 for 5 including brand new tires. They are take-offs that a dealership in town was getting rid of, by stroke of luck me and MandAtaco were able to buy what they had. Ive seen them listed on craigslist for 1000.00 +/-, depending on the seller.

Probably next month sometime, I'm going to take these off of my 14 Trail and put them on my 3rd gen. I will paint them most likely black or gunmetal with 255/80/17 Cooper ST Maxx tires. Will post pictures when done.

Ah ok- ya I browsed more after and realized those caps weren't from the factory that way.

But ya, $500 for the full set plus new tires is something I'd jump on. The cheapest set I've seen (other than the fluke $400 set) is $700, but that is with some wear on the tires. Most are in the $1k range as you stated.

Nice! I know I've seen a green FJ on Instagram that painted his black and they came out real well. Please do post pics once they're on!

Gen 2 with the best low key trail wheels on the planet.

Modifications to center caps and it looks good.
