Trail Edition Prices in Canada

I'm negotiating with a dealer to buy a TE here in Canada, and am wondering how much other Canadian buyers have paid for one, especially since the tragic tsunami slowed production in Japan.

Phone calls to other dealers have turned up only four TEs left in our region, and dealers say they can't get confirmation dates on any that they order.

I paid Invoice +$1000, but mine was SR5 and it was in Ontario and way before tsunami (last August)

Catchlight, I am on Vancouver Island as well. We bought a Limited from metro Lexus Toyota owned by the Jim Pattison group. We were able to get 1700 off the "sticker\toyota.ca price. I told them we were going to buy ours in Richmond and they said they would give us 1700 bucks off to earn our business. I would try talking to a dealership that is owned by the Jim Pattison group because they have more buying power. We also purchased it right after the earthquake about 3 weeks ago. Hope that helps.

Thanks, Screecha and scanny. I'm still haggling, and would jump at $1000 over invoice. That $1700 off MSRP is more likely the best the dealer will do, given the current shortage and the uncertainty about future supply.

It was really hard to find the colour I wanted in Alberta/Saskatchewan. There were only a few trail editions in all of Calgary!

We paid 39,200 for our 2010 trail edition purchased mid February pre tsunami.

Side note: One thing I was sad about getting a 10 instead of 11 was the perceived lack of ipod connection/USB port because the thats what the dealer told us...to my surprise, today I found a USB port in the glove and sure enough details about it in the manual! Dealers are pretty pathetic when it comes to knowing the vehicle 100%

Side note 2: Very happy with the vehicle! Replaced a 2003 Subaru forester and 91 toyota 4wd pickup with the new runner. It is pretty sweet. The people that seem to complain about the vehicle are generally comparing it to a V8 full on guzzler or a non truck chassi SUV. I had been considering a tacoma or FJ but the runner was always a better balance for my family...We felt the price was fair for such a rad vehicle.

Goodluck and play hardball! If they offer you floor mats, the factor ones are garb, better off getting weathertech or huskyliners for only a bit more cost.

Nice negotiating, Ghost Runner. That's a great price for Canada. Did $39,200 include freight, tax, and everything? The smallish dealership in our rural area seems to work on the "Greater Fool" principle: "If this customer doesn't overpay for this vehicle, a dumber one will come along soon for us to rip off."

I'm giving them a last and final offer tomorrow, then I'll try the city dealers, look for a used Trail, import a used one from the USA, or wait until the 2012s are out.

I just ordered a Limited in Nova Scotia and was quoted $54,699. He said it could take up to 3 months to arrive. I called a bunch of dealers in the province one said they couldn't help me the rest didn't call back.

My understanding is that Toyota does not allow its US dealers to sell new Toyotas to Canadians. They can sell you a used one, and a couple of friends who have imported tell me the process is pretty straighforward. You can look up the steps and legalities online.

I'm in the U.S. and it was hard to find a 2011 trail model there were only 9 within a 1000 mile radius and no dealer wanted to give one up unless they got another one in a different color in return or a prius which I guess are hard to get too. I ended up getting one that was a demo with 5000 miles on it for 36,000 out the door and that was with my 1000 dollar military discount. Not sure if this helps.

The MSRP for a ltd in Canada is 48k, with taxes its $57,143. $54k isn't that bad. You can cross the border to get vehicles. The old man got a lexus in Maine no issues. The joys of having free health care. But on the other hand if you are saying the MSRP is 15k cheaper I might consider it. I had one ordered as I didn't want any km's/miles on it.

MSRP for Ltd in the US is about $10,000 cheaper than in Canada, before negotiating. Lots of members here got below invoice, too. Comes down to supply demand, but still hard to believe Nova Scotia dealers are that complacent. I would have gone to Ontario or Quebec, heck even BC for that matter, to get prices just on principle if no one called back. With some effort, I suspect you can do better.

This is correct, but plenty of us Canucks also have US addresses and importing is remarkably straight forward once you sort out the paperwork.

Just to let you know, I imported a loaded up '11 TE (read my sig line) from the States, and I got in my driveway for 48,900 total. The $ exchange at the time was 1.013. There are alot of fees, the taxes of course, and other expenses, but I still got it for about the same as the best offer I got in Canada, plus I got the Nav and JBL upgrades.

He's offered $4500 for my clean '98 SR5 which has 235,000Km on it. It runs well, needs no major work, and is rust-free, except for the front bumper.

With the trade, the total would be $44,800. My options are to look for a rare used Trail, which will also be overpriced, wait until production returns to pre-tsunami levels, wait for the 2012 'Runners, or import a used one from the USA. It's decision time. Any suggestions?

It all depends on how bad you want it. I would sell your truck privately because the dealership will always low ball you. We had a 2003 LR Discovery SE7 that the dealership offered us 4700 bucks for, we sold it for 8k. So if your not in a hurry sell your truck privately. I should sell quick on the island.

Well, I called the salesman this afternoon to give him my "final offer" which I thought they would reject but, surprisingly, they took it. So I'm picking up a Trail Edition in Magnetic Grey tomorrow.

We're planning a couple of logging road trips to the west coast of Vancouver Island already, and our 19-year old daughter has kindly volunteered to research how well "Party Mode" works at the beach with her friends. I wonder if she'll be as eager to wash and vacuum it afterward.
