Trail Edition VS SR5 options??

this is gonna seem petty, but I hate that the TE doesn't have the flip down overhead sunglasses holder. This bugs the **** out of me! One of those absolutely teeny things that you simply don't notice until after the purchase and you're driving down the street and reach to put your sunglasses away, and it isn't there.

I thought the same thing....didnt realize it until I went to store them ugggggg

on top of a base sr5 4x4, the TE adds:
(options available on the sr5):
Convenience package , aka, sunroof and power outlets package
upgraded stereo package
slide out cargo tray
back up camera
power seat package
anti-theft alarm system
roof rack cross bars

over $3000 in options if added to a stock sr5 4x4.

(additions not available on the sr5 that come standard on the TE):
sweet wheels
awesome fake hoodscoop
better approach and departure angles (different front and rear trim)
better break over (no running boards)
smoked headlights
different roof rack
LOCKING REAR DIFF.
crawl control
multi-terrain select
waterproof seats
optitron gauges

this is really why I figured the TE is a better deal.

I wanted heated leather seats so I went with the SR5, I have arthuritis in my back and this makes it feel better on those cold days ! I did not feel like paying $6000 more for the Limited was worth it for me.

For around 500 you can have heating elements installed in TE seats... Just an FYI to others out there that do not already know

The Ltd does not have rear sonar? That seems odd if so. I use it all the time. Very helpful backing into my garage, even with the camera.

Only thing I would really like to add to my SR5 is the locking rear diff.

Edit: I'd really like to have a radio (without Nav) that I could read during the day. I now use my radio as if it has no display at all and just use the steering wheel controls to scan pre-sets.
I can't remember a worse display design ever, but it sounds good.

ARB front and rear lockers are $865 each plus install cost. Might as well regear with available 4.56's while your at it!

When my dad was looking to have his Jeep TJ re-geared and have locker's installed, 4WheelParts quoted him $1500 per axle after labor and parts. Just wanted to throw that out there to give the OP an idea. This was about 2 years ago though.

Definitely re-gear if your having ARB's installed.

hofs05 wanted leater so she went with the sr5 with the leather/heated package. I would say ATRAC makes it about 95% as capable as you would need it to be, so if you'll be getting a new suspension anyway and you desire leather, sr5 is hard to beat.

It would cost a bit more then $1500 for the 4.56 ring and pinion,ARB locker and labor for the rear for the 5th Gens right now.
The only 4.56 rear gear available cost $800 plus alone plus the $865 for the locker. So that's close to $1700 just in parts and shipping . Here's the gear ...8.2 2010+ REAR, FJ CRUISER, 4RU : JTs Parts & Accessories, Justdifferentials.com

The 4.56 gear is so expensive I believe because it's OEM from the now vanquished, elusive 4 cyl 2010 4Runner. I read they had a 4 speed auto tranny with 4.56's in the rear. Hopefully somebody is working on aftermarket gears for our new 8.2 rear ends which should sell for alot less then $800.

The front diffs are the same as the 4th Gens/FJ's so gears are plentiful and cheap and uses the same ARB lockers.

My Trail locks up all four wheels in 4 low. Very nice, can be a bit tricky when the snow and ice are here. I am going to modify so all can be locked in in 4 high.
I had a "all wheel drive" before, it was a fine asphalt SUV. But I managed to get into many places off-road where I had to work too hard to get out of.
With the 4 low and all wheels locked in, the only time I have gotten stuck was when we met quicksand. My winch pulled us out. My wife thought I was crazy when I put on a winch that was able to pull 3x our weight. She is happy now.
The Trail has two rows of seats, the space where the 3rd row would be is a sliding cargo shelf. Very nice to help loading and unloading.
The moon roof is nice, after a decade it still works and does not leak.

Our Trail does not have heated seats, leather interior, televisions and separate sound systems for every seat.

Saw a post which mentioned no place for putting sunglasses. True, I placed two clothespins on the center HVAC vents. When in the dirt, they are on my face.
