I too am new to this forum. I am in Texas and believe it or not Toyota Gulf State does not even allow dealers in the 5 state region to order the TE. Since I am a Toyota plant employee where the Tundras and Tacomas are made, I was able to special order a TE and waiting for delivery with in the next few weeks. Ordered black with TRD wheels. Can't wait!

Welcome, you will love your Trail Edition. I now have 50k miles on my 2012 with out any problems yet.
However the factory shocks are starting to get even more bouncy, so I have ordered some Bilstein HDs since I do not plan on a lift and do mostly highway use. Otherwise the 5100s are probably the best choice to help with nose dive.
Also be aware of the brake assist system that will kick in and scare the crap out of you if you are not expecting it.
I still have the factory Bridgestone tires too. But plan on finally replacing them before winter. Most guys get rid of the factory tires right away, so you might start thinking about that now, while you are waiting for your rig.
When you get your truck, post some photos of it and introduce yourself to the forum. There are some pretty good guys on here.
Which Bilsteins, please?
I have a 2012 TE too, new to me in August, 45k miles... not sure what you're saying exactly about the Bilsteins... my TE is not lifted, nor will I lift... so are you getting 5100s or some other Bilsteins? I'm trying to be forward thinking...

5Gen Skid plate wire mesh
Just bought a new 16 TE Premium with KDSS. On a recent cross country road trip, while driving on a recently graded gravel and crushed rock road, a "small" pile of mounded (though loose) gravel broke out the wire mesh and stuffed the cavity with gravel. Took 3 days to discover the problem. Toyota has said the cause wasn't workmanship or materials failure and that I'm on my own. Have other owners encountered a similar problem with the TE Skid plate design and with Toyota refusing to cover the part?

Wait a second, you drove through a pile of gravel, correct? it's your fault. If you would have driven around said pile of albeit loose gravel would this still have occurred?
I mean for example your driving on that gravel road, your tire kicks up gravel and chips your paint. Would you expect them to fix the ding in the paint?

The TRD Pro skid plate will fit with slight modification to the plate for KDSS. Other than that, that was the only modification we had to do to the TRD Pro plate!

I busted out the little screens the first time I took mine offroad, they aren't very strong.
But I don't understand the problem, did the gravel damage something?

Oh, gotcha. yeah that's not their problem.
I guess he could file an insurance claim if it bothers him that much :shrug:

because yours are post-facelift (14+). when that post was written, in 2013, the Trail didn't have them. same reason yours don't have flat black sideview mirrors, bumpers, door handles, fender trim, and roof rack like the 10-13 Trail Edition.

I have started shopping and like the TE, found a local New of course, but also a 13 with only 59k which has the rear cargo slider.
IM curious what you seasoned folks have thought about it. useful or wasted space?
I have also read the KDSS is either love or hate depending upon owners uses needs.
shopping if fun at first, but sure can be taxing, and those prices. also learning all the new fun stuff to be had. last 4R I had was a 3rd gen 5 speed with rear locker.

Now that I think of it... I did about 2 months of research before purchasing my TE and never once thought about or read about the skid plates... I know the TRD Pro had its own specialized engine skid plate but other than that, I figured they would all be the same.
