That tire patch kit is pretty cool and I think I may actually order a set BUT I would definitely not count on that instead of a spare tire.

When tires do go out on the trail it isn't uncommon for them to be ripped apart, shredded, etc. Just look at the pics of NateMob's tire puncture on the trail due to a sharp rock. No patch can fix that kind of damage.

I just talked to my agent about this...

Anything that is permanently attached to the vehicle is covered. So lights, rack, bumpers, tires, radios etc. But anything loose in the car is not. I.e. tools, recovery equipment etc.

That stuff is covered by your homeowners policy if you also have one through them, but if it's extensive, you can get a rider of sorts for a fixed amount for pretty cheap. I'm going to add up all my travel gear and see if it makes sense this weekend. I don't normally carry most of it, but when on a trip...

Hounddogman, nice kit! Don't think $90 is too bad of a price for what they deliver. Price is minor if it gets you home!

Job weld putty, aka gas tank sealer amongst other names two part epoxy putty

Knipex pliers wrench 10 inch

Old serpentine belt. I keep the old one, in case of emergency.

Very good point, I have said tire repair kit and a compressor, but this is not a replacement for a good spare tire. For me, I carry this for DD because the chances of a sidewall slash are minimal but I also have AAA which is very cheap insurence to have. Then when going on trips either off-road or on I carry my spare.

I hate to admit this but on one of my more poorer days I was at the coast about 60 miles from home and no money for gas. Yes, I abused the AAA card and had them tow me home from the coast, all covered by AAA. I now carry the premium card and can be towed for 300 miles a year at no extra cost, imagine the possibilities...

Oh and I've heard of a bar of soap being a good gas tank sealer.
