Trailer Break Override triggers ABS and VSC dash light

I'm having the same issue (thank goodness I saw this so I didn't freak). Unfortunately, a restart did not solve the issue. I also disconnected the battery to see if it would clear the codes. No love. So is it to the dealer to diag now?

Why does every little thing need to be a PITA?

Thank you for contacting Tech Support. I have not heard of any issues using the Tekonsha controls on a 4Runner, especially if your 4Runner has a factory tow package. The only connection the control has to anything brake related, is the connection to the brake light circuit, and would have no effect on the ABSVCS system. I was thinking that some of the others that had an issue, may be hard wiring the control in, and connecting to the wrong wire at the brake light switch.

Is anyone having this problem with the Tekonsha supplied cable designed for the 4runner. Mine seems to work without any problem.

I had the same thing happen using the Tekonsha P3 and the supplied harness that came with it. I stopped by the local trailer place and they said they have seen it before and to wire a relay in as was mentioned above.

I also had the relay installed, but still need to go back to have the code cleared.

Have you had any issue after the repay install with codes or the ability to use the manual over-ride?

So that eliminates Tekonsha's 'hard-wired' comment. Has anyone NOT had issues using their brake controller's manual lever?

I haven't wired in the relay yet. I read over on the Tundra forums that you need to make sure the ground is good or this can happen.

I am going to re mount the white ground wire to be safe. However, I am using the same ground spot for 2 switches, and those do not have issues....

Trailer dealer tried to clear codes with Scanalizer. Failed. Appt at dealer tmrw.

My lights cleared the next morning after sitting overnight...

My lights come and go, but the Scanalizer does show persistent codes. They even show when the controller is disconnected.

Well crap. Seems the installation process caused a fried yaw sensor. This was either caused by a faulty controller or a test probe that applied voltage to a zero voltage line. Part ordered and I had to get the trailer place to cough up a new controller and over $1600 for part and labor. Thankfully they agreed to do so.

A simple plug-and-play has turned in to a multi-week ordeal. Heads-up to *make sure* whomever is installing your controller knows what they are doing. I'm taking the replacement controller to the dealer and have them install it.

That's what the trailer guy said. He is asked for the failed part and are going (together with the brake ctrl company) back to Toyota to have them explain how their "factory feature" doesn't work.
