Trailer Break Override triggers ABS and VSC dash light

I ordered and installed the the E-trailer harness and the P3, I still got the error.:shrug:

Are you at least able to calibrate it so that it can lock the brakes?

I can live with it throwing non-persistent codes when using manual over-ride, but I can't live with it not being calibrated and effective.

I reached out to Tekonsha again and got this:

After speaking with you, that day. I have had a couple of instances with the same issue. We are going to evaluate the vehicle, and see what is going to need to be done, to have our brake controls work in 4Runner, with no issues. I suspect, that a diode will be needed in the stop light (red) wire to prevent back-feeding into the 4Runner. I suggest checking back with me in about a month to see what we have found.

Exactly. Thankfully it works perfect. Now let's get these codes figured out!

Latest update. Installed the eTrailer harness and found a better ground under the kick panel. No change in behavior. Throws *nonpersistent* codes when using manual over ride. All else fine.

Up to Tekonsha I guess. Contacted their technical support via their site. No reply.

New update. Just got a call from tech support. They said they were aware of a few of these issues (I was the first - yay) . They want to get my truck in for evaluation and expect it will indeed need a diode.

Some new information...
I just installed a Tekonsha P3 purchased in 2013 in my 2015 TEP, using the harness with the extra ground. Extra Ground not connected. No lights or codes when using manual brake lever. I went to my dealership and spoke to "The Trailer Brake Guy", he has not seen the issue yet, he says they are installing controllers (he likes Hayes, but has installed several P3s) to the tune of 2 or 3 a month since December on these vehicles... FWIW.

I was wrong. I get no errors in the driveway, but under load it throws non-persistent codes.
By under load I mean I used the manual activation lever to drag both vehicles to a stop without using the vehicle brakes at all. I realize this is not good practice, but I wanted to simulate the worst possible scenario. When using the vehicle brakes in combination with the manual activation lever I do not get a code. The max boost on my P3 is set to 9.0.

I leave on Saturday for a camping trip, I plan to be very sparing with the manual brake lever.

Just installed Tekonsha Primus IQ and seeing the same issue. Have not experimented with it much yet. Camping trip coming up in a month, hoping we will hear back by then.
