Trailer connection standard on 4Runners?

I've had this thing for over three months now, and I'll be damned if I didnt just notice it has a trailer connection, factory wired in, over on the driver side rear frame rail. It does not have a hitch of any sort though.

Is this connection standard on all the 4Runners? Or did the previous owner have to order it like this?

Got me thinking of putting a hitch on it and see how it handles the boat....... :D

They probably used one wiring harness so even without the hitch you still have the wiring. You probably have the wiring under the driver's kick panel, for the brake controller also.

Yes wiring is standard on it, and AFAIK its connections are standard because I used a converter from wal-mart for some u-haul trailers I towed (5 so far) and they all were all correct and when I re-wired our boat to a 7-way connector using some other guys config. and it worked perfectly. I would highly recommend picking up a 7-way connector and converting the wiring to that.

I've got a round 7 pin connector with flat four wired to the opposite end for my Ram already. But that truck is stored at my parent's property so I dont have it handy to see if it's the same connector or not. I have a trailer brake module on my 96 Ram, gooseneck, 5th wheel, and reciever hitch, so that's why It has the 7 pin connector. I had adapters for flat 4, 5, and six pin to plug into my 7 pin at one time. Hope I can still find em lol. Used that truck when I worked for John Deere to haul tractors and what not, but havent done much towing since I left there some years ago, kinda lost track of some of my towing paraphenalia..... :(

It's standard... I don't have the factory hitch nor do I have the cut out on the rear bumper for the hitch. I do have the 7-pin round plug on the rear cross member and the pigtail harness for the brake controller. Currently, I have the HiddenHitch #70779 hitch.

I paid extra for the towing hitch and receiver as an option on my '07.

Since they are all wired up for this, just the hitch was an option. HAs the bumper modification for the rear bumber since the mout attaches to the frame and sits higher than most aftermarket hitches would.

06 and up V6 runners did not have the hitch stock. V8's still do. Its not too surprising that it still has the wiring since they just put it in all 4runners so its there is you get a hitch for it.

BTW, it'll handle the boat just fine im sure.
