trailer connector

anyone have a trailer wiring harness for a 2001 4 Runner they want to sell or a part number for same, maybe dealer can still get it.

The dealer actually sells the "back half", which connects via plug, like right underneath the driver's side slightly fore of the wheel well? I seem to remember accessing it by pulling interior panels out of the cargo area, long time ago, but definitely sure it was a dealership part, check with them and they may even be able to show you on the screen where it goes. Mine has worked perfect for 7 years since. Doesn't hurt to spray it with electronics cleaner and some dielectric grease on occasion, and keep that cover on.

That's exactly what the kit posted above on Amazon is.

Like I said, literally plug and play. And you're correct, it's to the back of the vehicle (behind the wheel well) and under the panel. Took me about 30 minutes total to get everything done.

Nope, not at all. It was one plug only. Around $35 if I remember correctly. Of course if OP doesn't have any wiring at all, then totally worthless to him.

I ordered the one from Amazon without my 97 having any wires. When I click on that link it tells me the date I ordered it last and asks me if I'd like to order another one.

The Amazon kit is what he needs to get. It has two parts. I only used one part, which was ONE plug.

Don't tell me what I know, Travis.

lol same here :) OK well mine had stock trailer wiring, but the plug had corroded beyond being able to use again, and the wire going to it was in bad condition as well. I actually bought the kit you linked to, it is still sitting on my shelf (wonder if OP wants to buy it?) but someone here told me to check the stealership for the part i wound up with, and how and where to install it. I assumed all 3rd gens came equipped with trailer wiring and hitch, is this not the case?
 
OK so that part is discontinued, but maybe you can source online somewhere, P/N 0892135840. Parts guy believes they were all wired for trailers, but if hitch wasn't a selected option at point of purchase, then obviously it wouldn't have this "back half" I am referring to. If you can find this part, I will figure out where they meet and we can see then if this pre-wired thing is true.
