Trailer Hitch?

Hi, I am the new owner of 2006 4 Runner Sport after trading in my 2005 Xterra. The factory hitch that is installed, is that a C3 hitch? I tow a 1800lb bass boat and want to make sure that hitch is c3.

Thanks so it sounds like the hitch installed is good enough to tow my boat. Love the 4 Runner what a step up from the Xterra!

Absolutely. FWIW, I don't think there's any hitches (for 3rd or 4th gen T4R) that are 'less than' C3. I am sure somebody somewhere has some goofy, one-off thing that may be less than C3. The opening is the giveaway. If the reciever is the same size as yours it's class 3 or 4. If it's smaller it's class II. If it's the tiny one, 1"x1" I think, it's class 1. These days the 1's and 2's are mostly cars and relagated to carrying wheelchairs, bicycles etc. Once in a while I see a class 3 on some uni-body car that has no business pulling more than a 1000lbs. In those cases the hitch is strong enough but the car would rip apart.

I pull a 2500 lb tent trailer with my 06 V8 T4R and it is much better than the Jeep Grand Cherokee I pulled with before.

I also put a class 3 hitch on the front so I could put a winch on either end and take it off when not needed. It also is nice to have a hitch in the front in case you want to manuver the trailer into a tight spot.

Thanks, I would have liked the V8 but I think the V6 will do just fine. I am very impressed with the quality of the 4 Runner.
