Trailer Outlet Question

We have a 1999 T4R SR5 w/trailering pkg. The electrical outlet for the trailer hookup has absolutely no power. Owners manual doesn't tell me which fuse goes to that outlet. Where is the protective fuse located?

Thank you for your help. Wanting to take the kids camping this weekend but can't without the lights working.

I'm operating off memory here but I don't think there's a specific set of fuses for the trailer wiring. You didn't say how you determined "no power" at the hookup, but assuming that you're correct and you don't have brake lights or turn signal voltage or anything (and that those circuits are working on the truck itself), you've got a wiring problem.

I vaguely remember a junction box in the drivers side rear behind the bedside panel. Yank that panel and see if you have a junction box in there with a set of yellow green and brown wires anywhere near it.

Thanks KidVermicious - My father tested the hookup with some sort of electrical tester. All the lights on the truck work, just not to the trailer. I will see if I can get that panel off.

Actually there is a fuse, at least there is on the later 3rd gens. I don't have the break out for the early wiring. In the engine bay fuse block there is a 25A fuse marked "towing". It powers the trailer lamp converter located behind the left tail lamp, accessible by partially removing the left rear trim panel, and sill plate at the rear gate.

That fuse would be a good start, if it is good we can look at the converter.

It may very well be, if this is wired up with the Toyota Trailer converter box, that that converter box is dead. Mine was dead when I was working on getting my trailer setup going and while researching the problem, it appeared that this is a real common issue. I went to U-Haul and bought their el-cheapo (<$20) trailer lighting package and wired their converter box up.

So, if you find that all your fuses are good-to-go, this would be the next link in the chain that I would suggest you check.
