I was about to make a post about how much can a 4Runner tow, then I used the search button. That subject has been beat to death and lots of great info in there. You guys really cover things well. Every time I wanted info about one, I use the search button and there is always tons of info there. Thanks

Search buttons are cool. Just a refresher, 5,000 pounds for the V6 and a 500 pounds tounge wieght. I think after 1,500 pounds you should have trailer brakes. If you tow a good bit of wieght a transmission cooler is a good idea.
I don't have a transmission cooler for my 4Runner and I put the ECT button on and turn off the overdrive about 50% of the time. Also I use synthetic oil. My pop up camper is about 2,000 pounds fully loaded. About 1,500 pounds dry. I took it out west 2 years ago.
I also think it is wise not to push it to the limit of 5,000 pounds.

One thing I might mention, is most 3rd generation trailer hitches are not equal distribution trailer hitches. If you have a big load and they require an equal distribution trailer hitch, you will have to change it. Otherwise a 3rd generation model can tow pretty much stock.8uwav6 said:

I know that this exceeds the weight classed by Toyota. I am looking into a new lighter trailer and that should help alot. Yeah I know. I want a T4R, cannot afford to buy 2 vehicles and do not want to drive the Cummins all over the place. Too bad I cant trade in the Path and the Cummins on one new truck. That would be awesome. The new T4R are not as good looking IMHO. Well we will see what happens I guess.
