Train Horns

Anyone install a set of train horns on their 4runner? You know to alert all those young ladies that are about to crash into you while texting? I've discovered that the beep beep doesn't have much of an effect on them other than to prompt them to raise a middle finger at you while not even looking up from their iphone.....

Why not try these?

I've been looking at these for a while myself, the main drawback from what I've seen is the noisy compressor after a honk/blast. Also I'd want to tie it into the stock horn rather than having another button for the horn. You can't beat the sound of a train horn that's for sure.

Ive got Air horns, not "train horns" mine are pretty loud, IMHO they are very well worth it. The stock horns are worthless.

hey

I've found the stock horn to actually be way better than what some other manufacturers put in their cars. At least it isn't a little high pitched beep! How about you get the same horn they use in fire trucks. Not only would people notice it, but they will move out of the way too! :biggrin2:

Hey now, why ruin a good post with gender bias? Men text and drive, too. Tons of businessmen are blackberrying, and boys are texting as they drive. No need to throw stones only at the women....

I'm
just
sayin'.

im not bias or anything. but....

i once saw this woman -no joke- eating a burger, putting on make up,talking on the cell phone, and smoking a cigarette... all while driving with her knee while peering into her beauty imperfections in the visor mirror... i stayed waaaaay back.

personal opinion is that the drivers side visor - for both men and women- should not have a mirror.

i havnt seen too many men putting on make up while driving... and that one time... well.... that was just weird. :wow2:

My advice, GET THE TRAIN HORN! It was a ton of fun when I had one, got a good deal on one on ebay that is close to as loud as the $1000 ones on hornblasters.com; I put mine, like gaterose said, where the spare tire was (because I had free towing as part of my insurance), and it was a perfect location. But watch out because cops don't take to kindly to them.

Well you are right, BUT of the three close calls Ive had in the past year that required evasive driving to prevent an accident it was a young woman all three time, all three were texting, all three were driving their parents car, and all three flipped me off.........sooooooooooo

A few weeks ago on the way to work with my wife driving sitting at a stop light, I watched the woman next to me, warm glow of the screen on her face, slowely roll into the truck in front of her - bump! The entire time looking at her screen and not paying attention....

Im thinking 150 db 10 feet away will get peoples attention....

Although not on the 4runner, I have an air horn hooked up to my silverado. I run a firestone compressor, air tank, and a pair of Grover horns. The compressor is kind of loud when it runs because of where I have it mounted. If I were to mount it to the frame you probably wouldn't even notice it. It is more expensive to do it that way but I also have air bags on the truck for when I tow. Plus I can air up tires with it (not real fast but it will get you out of a jam). This setup will definetly get peoples attention. Someday I plan on doing the same setup on the 4runner with maybe a slightly bigger tank to air up tires faster.

What would they care as long as your not laying on them driving thru suburbia....
I don't know if they will care where your at, but down in the college town I am in they don't like them at all. I was speaking from experience, not just talking out my ass.
