Transfer Case differences ?

So my next question, and I think my last, is the suspension components the same for the SR5 and the Trail ? I would guess maybe the shocks would be different, but does anyone know if the Trail rides more stiff, does it have more articulation?

To ask ANYONE at the dealership these questions would be masochistic; they are completely clueless.

SR5 and Trail w/o KDSS have the same suspension Shocks and All. The Trail w/ KDSS has the same shocks but has a differant sway bar set up (the KDSS). The Trail w/ KDSS will be flatter in corners (less body roll) due to the thicker swaybars used.

I would test drive both and see if you can tell the differance/feel it is worth the price to you.

P.S. Get the Trail, the Trasnfer Case Lever ups your cool factor by 10, its similiar to TRD Pro status without all the negatives that go along with it.

The trail has the optional KDSS system. For some of us it was a must have. For others not so much. I personally am a big fan and would not own a 4runner if not for KDSS due to the highway manners and it being my daily driver. When I first drove an sr5 5th gen I said "nope" and didn't take another look for the next couple years. OTOH if you want to replace/upgrade your suspension the KDSS does have some limitations.

IMO - go test drive one of each.

There are three different transfer cases currently available : SR5 servo part-time four-wheel-drive, trail manual engage part-time four-wheel-drive, Limited servo full-time four-wheel-drive.

Thanks for the explanation. Got it.
I'm trying to decide between new SR5 and a Trail. Don't really need the TE as you can see in my avatar, but I'm not a fan of the transfer case dial in the SR5 and would prefer the lever for obvious reasons.

So I'm thinking I probably wouldn't use the 4WD a bunch unless I park the Burb and only use that for the extreme stuff, which is rare, and use the 4runner more.

The differentiating features of the trail are rear locker and KDSS. If you plan to not modify it... The trail with KDSS would be a good choice.

I have a 15 trail non KDSS and it rides very good. It actually seems to ride a little soft for me. Front end dives like crazy when you tap the brakes. Sitting at a light and tapping the brakes I can make the front end Dance. Took those garbage tires off the third day I had it and put on my bf Goodrich all terrains I took off my tacoma before I traded it in.
