2003 Toyota 4Runner Limited leaking transfer case?
Hey guys! New here... about 4 months ago I bought a 2003 4runner with 180K on it. I saw that in had oil drips under when I was buying it but it was really nice and I got it for $4,500. So I was willing to put oil in it. Well turns out my oil never gets low so I crawled under and found it looks like a transfer case leak.
What do you guys think? Does it look like the transfer case. I'm trying to upload the pics to this post.

Actuator seal. Lots on here about it. That's exactly what mine looked like when I bought it. Dropping and splitting the transfer case in a couple months to replace the seals.

What were the symptoms of the oil leak? I have a 2003 V8 that vibrates fast like running over rumble strips. It will do it intermittently but it does do it every time it's driven. Should I drain and fill the TC anyway to see if that helps? If there is another thread on this subject please post. Thanks!

Search the forum for "rumble strip" it sounds like what many have experienced, which is a torque converter shudder, most find that changing the transmission fluid and also some add the additive "Shudder Fixx" and for most it solves the shudder.
Thanks for the advice. I was up for hours reading. This is defiantly what I'm experiencing. Going to do drain and fill procedure in write up. Great place for finding fixes to these vehicles. The 2003 Limited V8 I have has 262k on the clock. Runs and drives like new except for the shudder.

Your's being a 2003 is not the sealed transmission so it will be much easier for you to fill it via the dipstick tube and also check it once you get it back to operating temperature, be sure to use the correct fluid, it's not the WS fluid we have in our sealed transmission, read your owner's manual and or look on the dip stick for which fluid to use, I would also recommend adding the Shudder Fixx as well, it definitively will not hurt anything and will be good for the torque converter!!
You can buy it at most any auto parts store, here's a link so you know what to look for if you decide to add it.

Fast TC leak
Now that I know the torque converter is most likely toast, I'm focusing on figuring out what to do with the transfer case leak. I filled it up with a quart and a half of oil and it's already leaked a few ounces onto the floor. This forum is great. So much useful information!

Reviving this thread to see if anyone can help identify if this is going to be a easy repair or the dreaded actuator leak.
That looks like the output shaft seals is blown. Definitely not the actuator housing seals.
