Transfer Case Leak

Hey guys, first let me preface this by saying I am in no way shape or form a mechanic. I make my living by pushing computer mice around and catering bbqs. However, I do know how to turn a wrench and can undertake minor tasks so theres that much.

On to my issue: I recently had my transmission rebuilt and since then it has been marking its territory. I crawled underneath the truck and found that the leak was coming from the filler hole on the transfer case. I opened up the filler hole and gear oil started gushing out. Now it seems to me that that shouldnt have happened. From reading the FSM, the gear oil should be just about level with the filler hole.

Do you think the overfilling caused the leak or should I get a new plug just to be safe?

It is normal for it to leak out a little when when you take the plug out. You might be at a different angle than you where when you filled it. That being said, throw it on level ground, open the filler plug, let the excess drain out and install a new plug and seal. It is more than likely the little silver seal that is bad vice the plug but the plug and seal together is less that $20.

I will replace the plug and seal, for sure. I was actually worried that the oil was low, what with all the leaking, I guess I was more surprised that it was over full. Kinda makes me wonder how much oil is in the tranny now....

Auto or Manual trans? The manual has a fill and drain plug just like the t-case. Auto may have a dipstick but I'm not sure.

Its a manual. When I crawl under there to replace the filler plug, I'll check the tranny fluid as well.
