Transfer case

i just purchased a 99 limited and love it. The 4 wheel drive works exactly like it is supposed to and seems smooth. However i was checking underneeth and around the transfer case there is quite a bit of thick oil caked around it. It is pretty gooey and its caked around my fuel filter to. Not sure if this is normal from using 4wheel drive or not. Anyone else have this or any ideas what it could be. It doesn't seem to be leaking on my driveway at all. I suppose it could have been over lubed and when parts start spinning down there it sprays a little grease around. It seems to look like and wipe off like grease.

Probably grease from u-joints and cardan joints. Just wipe it all off (use a degreaser too), and then check it again in a few weeks to see if it's back. Probably nothing to worry about, though.

I second QYOTA. When people lube the driveshaft and u-joints they tend to overfill and you will get spray. However it is pretty normal to have some seepage around mating surfaces with mild build up over time. If you do get drips then it is time to start replacing gaskets.
