== Quick background ==
Wifey's car occasionally (on cold starts) stopped engaging in any gear and would not lurch forward when her foot was off the brake...then clunk...it engages, warms and runs fine.
I've run the gamut of symptoms to diagnose: fluids are fine and full, checked the rear drums for sticking, lubed the drive shafts, checked the battery, no CEL codes, yadda yadda. Basically I've narrowed it to dropping the pan and doing a natural flush to swap the solenoids and filter.
Should also state, that I believe (sadly) the car was a rental in it's former days. That is what was indicated on the Carfax report (after I bought it of course...Doh!)
== Now for the Curveball ==
Specs from Toyota say the transmission is an A340F for this model which aligns with being on the 99 4X4's. The door sticker confirms that as well.
That part makes sense...however when I crawled under to check it out the tag for the transmission is a 30-40LE which was designed to carry the 4x2 model. Remember I have 4X4.
== My Question ==
#1 Can anyone help explain the differences because I'm really curious if I'm roasting the truck when I'm in 4 wheel drive and if this thing will have a meltdown if I'm towing? The parts are considerably different for the 4X2 and 4X4 there is no mistaking that. (strangely it also has a hitch and 16" tires instead of 15" as the door and specs show)
#2 Does anyone know the difference between the solenoids for the A340F and 30-40LE?
#3 Are the 30-40LE and the A340E the same thing as some parts suppliers state?
As for the solenoids, I'll need to order sets for both models (30-40LE/A340E and A340F) and find out when I pull and inspect...
