Transmission fluid change

It appears from reading this far that the amounts drained do not include what fluid is in the torque converter. So (I'm guessing here) that approx only half of the fluid can be changed without doing a whole lot more work.

My experience shows that if the transmission is properly filled, you'll drain 3 qts from the pan. Elevate the front end as high as it will go and you'll get another qt. for a total of 4 qts. The system holds 11.3 qts., so a "pan drain" removes just over a third of the ATF.

tacomaworld.com - 2nd Gen - has 2 threads - one covers getting the fluid level correct and another doing a full flush.

2nd Gen Tacoma / 5th Gen 4 Runner - both have Aisin A750E - 2WD and Aisin A750F - 4WD transmissions.

So what ATF are you guys using? Are you changing it every 30k still? I'm getting close to 30k and am thinking it's about that time to change some tranny fluid, don't know if I want to use AMSOIL or Royal Purple or what...

We could talk change interval all day long. There are those who buy into the newer extended intervals and those who don't. In the end you have to do what suits you - ignore what anyone else thinks unless they offer to buy your ATF.

As far as fluid goes, I'd stick with the Toyota WS ATF. Many claim they have used other brands that carry a WS rating. For me, it ain't worth the difference in price.

For me, the one exception is coolant - Zerex Asian is just fine.

ON my 2016 I plan on using the Toyota spec ws fluid. less than $10 qt. I do not like mixing fluids. I plan on the pan drop method at 20K miles or so. also lift front end up to get out more fluid. then put in 1/2 qt more than what come out. drive up on my oak ramps I made so its all level and with scan gauge @110 deg f engine idling in neutral adjust the fluid level.

most likely the way I use this vehicle probably go 80K , before I repeat this . when using the scan gauge the torque converter and pan temps will be almost exactly the same when in idle speed , no in gear stuff... I have been monitoring all this the last 2K miles both temps..

My dad had a Blazer with 70k miles when he paid it off. He took it to get the transmission fluid changed and when he got home the Blazer burned almost to the ground right in front of our house. VOODOO!!
