Transmission fluid $$

I'm looking to drain/fill the tranny fluid every oil change and I can't believe the cost for the T-IV fluid. The best price I can find on the net is $28 a quart.

Doest anyone have a cheaper source. Or use a different fluid?

Something doesn't sound right. I bought toyota WS fluid at $9 a quart. Type IV is an older style cheaper fluid. I have a hard time believing it's 28 a quart. Try a different dealer.

I didn't read the description right. It was $28 for 4 quarts with free shipping. Not too bad after all. I must be getting too old. My eyes are failing me

WHY? its is to be lifetime service. I can see maybe doing it once but not at every oil change. have you not read the slew of post regarding shifting issues after flush and fill? why take that risk?

I just did my 120K service at the dealer. I had them drain/refill the rear end, trans, coolant, plugs, filters, etc. I supplied the fluids, but bought them earlier from the parts department with the intention of DIY.

They didn't recommend a service (filter, etc.), just the drain/refill. There must be something to the recommendation if the dealer doesn't want to take the extra money for an unnecessary service.

As always, YMMV.

Without going into the usual rant about why "Lifetime Fluid" is utter crap. Under normal driving around 100k is a good interval.

Probably should have went into a little more detail.... I plan to do 4 quarts three times over the next 6 months to just slowly clean the fluid up some. I'll start when I do my next oil change. I bought the truck with 102k on it and I have no idea if the fluid has ever been changed. I'm not in the camp that belives a fluid lasts forever and I'm not in favor of flushing all the fluid at once if you haven't started doing that sometime before 100k.
