Hi Guys,
I bought my 2004 4Runner V6 recently & have read several discussions about it & watched videos on it as well. I know there is a wide range of opinions & how often ppl change the fluid or whether they change it at all (especially with higher mileage, or just drain & refill as opposed to a flush). Well, mine has 160,000 miles on it & was planning on doing a drain/refill in the near future but when I checked the fluid it seems it has a nice reddish color too it (instead of a nasty brown from use/age) & I'm thinking I should be good to go for quite awhile. It shifts smooth & I've had no problems, but I know with used cars ya don't always know what your getting into other than what records you can scrounge up from the dealer etc. For being 10yrs old with the amount of miles it has, it is in really great shape inside & out, the only thing is a bit of surface rust here & there. It seems there are so many opinions on this subject that going with your gut & just keeping an eye on it is the best route. I think in my case I'll just check it when doing oil changes & if it's low or starts looking nasty go with the drain & fill method.
