transmission problem?????

ok so my 88 4runner has been doing good! but the past maybe 3 days the tranny seems to be sticking in 1st and 2nd gear? not all the time but sometimes when im at a stop i try to put it in 1st i have to force it! and it seems its only when it gets hot??? any ideas

We could use a little more info. Manual or automatic?
 
manual, it seems its only when it gets warm though. and when i do get it into gear its not grinding or anything like that just hard too put it in?? gear oil maybe??

Yeah, check gear oil level and condition (burned?). It sounds like you could be in a Zmax commercial. STP might help as well.

what is the zemax stuff??? like an additive?? i changed the fluid maybe like in april, the last owner put ATF in it is that even good

Yep, if the lightest of gear oils don't work. Put some ATF, or just put ATF on it.
Some transmissions do go like this, Mazda 323 8x-93 or something was well known for havin' these issues, at least in Iceland in cold weathers.

It's an additive,I have not tried it but I have used STP (also an additive) with great success. The previous owner must have had the same problem and put in the ATF. If you keep having this problem you could end up bending a shifting fork so I would try something soon. You might also want to switch to synthetic gear oil.
