Hello I have a 2006 4runner limited V6 4wd with 152,000 miles. 2 weeks after I bought the car I started noticing a faint humming around 30mph. When I let off the pedal at 35 It downshifts then there’s a humming/whirrr noise until about 20 mph. The noise started to get louder and now began to be noticable at highway speeds 55-70mph. On the highway It seems louder at light throttle and when I let off of the pedal it disappears for a second or two and returns again. I was pretty positive it was a pinion bearing until I took it to two shops and both say it is related to the transmission and a possible pump failing. The Humming goes away in neutral and does not make the noise at idle. It also disappears when 4hi is engaged which is very strange to me. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else and if you think it’s a bad idea to continue driving it until it gets worse. Also I did have the classic rumble strip jerking and had the Transmission flushed at the dealer at 149,000 which helped a lot but every now and again I feel it jerk some when it goes into overdrive.
