Transmission rebuild?

Looks like used are $500 to $900, so figure $700. If you can get it put in for $500, that would be $1200.

Does the rebuild get any significant upgrades? If yours failed because you pushed it too hard towing or off roading, an upgrade may solve the weakness. If your AT never had its fluid changed or pink milkshaked out, a used replacement may suit you well. I don't read about that may AT failures, so I would lean towards used.

My route is do it yourself, free and rebuild kit for 200-300$. Ill let you know how it turns out and throw some pics up. I'm in hawaii and got a $3700 qoute cause I'm Haole lol.

Found this lil guy while dropping the pan. I thought about buying used. But since I'm keeping this for a while I figure spend a lil more and get it rebuilt.

I did find some used ones but again. I don't wanna save a few hundred and have this happen all over again ya know

Yup that's the same exact piece I found. After talking to some experts, Im heavily considering having a reputable place rebuild it for me vice myself. After the price of the rebuild kit, it looks like it would be worth the extra cash to pay a shop so it will have a warrenty. They have the proper tools too. I did drop it myself though so guess I'll be putting it back in when done. Keep us updated with your course of action

I would also consider pricing out a new unit from Toyota, I don't remember them being all that expensive compared to the rebuild costs.

Just got qoutes back and lowest is 1800-2000$ for rebuild. She said I saved 1000$ by pulling it myself. But for that much I'm just going to get the kit and attempt it. I believe the pieces that you and I found are right behind the pump so should be easy if that's all you wanted to do. But I guess while it's out might as well do the whole kit. To be continued...

Not sure if your keeping up with my original post, but here's where the piece goes. In between the "O/D assembly" and the "assembled direct clutch, forward clutch and front planetary ring gear" (what you see in the picture). Looks like the only 'plastic' piece in the assembly. Researching now master build kits so I can put it back together. Everything else looks great so far - besides a brittle broken valve body gasket. Gonna do a write up when I have some downtime. I'm pretty happy I didn't pay $2000 for a $300 kit. The worst part has been removing it out of the vehicle(probably cause I did it alone). Sway bar nut was rust-welded on and tie rod castle nut so will be replacing both of those too. And since I'm investing my time gonna throw in the external trans cooler by B&M so trannie should be cherry for a while anyways.
