Transmission shift solenoid 1 P0751 P0974

No issues prior. From a stop when accelerating it is very sluggish as if it's starting out in 3rd gear. Operates normal above 15mph.

First code P0751 popped up (transmission shift solenoid "A" performance or stuck off )

Scanned again later and P0974 also showed (transmission shift solenoid "A" control circuit high)

I did some research but I couldn't find anything specific to this platform aside from debris can get lodged in the solenoid causing it to stick open or closed.

I went ahead and purchased the dealer part dropped the pan and swapped it out. Got everything put back together filled the fluid, cleared the codes test drove and P0974 came back. Same problem from a stop when accelerating.

I didn't check voltage on the harness connector when I had it apart but it visually looked solid.

Does the PCM need a reset of some kind after replacing the solenoid? Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with solenoids?

I've read some more info suggesting internal Trans failure might be the underlying problem.

TIA

I'm the 3rd owner, previous owner had all maintenance/service done at the dealer but I have no service records

Addition:

When shifter is put in 1/2 it accelerates fine from a stop.

Anyone? I really could use some help with this

Thanks

Going to take it in for a free diagnostic. Also spoke with the dealer, they said occasionally they need to do a recalibration on the solenoid.

Anyone have experience with having to do that?

Anyone had this problem/code or heard of calibrating new solenoids after install?

I was really hoping to get some feedback from the community

Update:

Took it into the dealer, the shift solenoid s1 pin has corroded inside the solenoid harness. Need to replace the entire solenoid harness that goes inside the trans pan and the female connector that goes to the main engine harness needs to be replaced or repaired.

Parts supplier said there is a 5 digit code on the female connector and they might have a replacement one I can splice into the main harness

Dealer quoted 3 hours labor, over $400

How did it corrode INSIDE the transmission body?

Huh, I don't know how I missed this thread...

But that is a very good question, theoretically it shouldn't corrode because it is bathed in transmission fluid I believe; but I suppose if it was never changed the fluid could contaminate it and result in corrosion?

It is the 15 pin harness connector outside the transmission, driver's side by the shift linkage. It's where the complete shift solenoid harness connects to the female pigtail that is part of the main engine harness. 3 of the 15 pins are corroded. The male side of the s1 pin is broken off inside the female side pigtail. Shift solenoid is not getting a signal from the computer

Ah that makes much more sense, some of the transmissions have internal solenoid connections that should be sealed if I remember right.

Do you happen to have a picture of its location? Do you drive through deep water frequently?

I'll get some photos next week when I attempt to fix it.

I haven't driven through any puddles but I've personally only had it for a few months

I have the same corrosion on my harness. Pins broken off on the trans side. Do you happen to have the part number?

Edit: I think I found it actually. Going to call and confirm with the dealer on Monday morning. It appears to be the same P/n used on the tacoma, sequoia, and land cruisers.(82125-60650)

Edit: Went to the dealer with my VIN and ordered the correct part(see above). Should be in tomorrow so Im hoping to get it installed by the evening and have my truck back on the road. Ill keep everyone updated. BTW, this is a very common issue. Very, very rarely do the solenoids fail in the a750 transmissions. Usually shops that are not aware of the corrosion issue will try and upsell new solenoids to resolve the issue when all that is really needed is a cleaning of the harness pins or replacement of the harness if the pins are badly corroded and snapped off like mine

same issue

Hey, new here. Just picked up an 05 sr5 v6 and the owner belived it needed an ECU, it was shooting all kinds of codes for vsc and well as shift solenoids, p0974 was most reoccurring fault. After thinking about removing solenoids i went to inspect transmission, before i ever play with a trans i make sure the fill hole, level hole and drain are able to loosen as well as all connectors. When i got to the solenoid harness, the lever was already in the down position, indicating it was loose, but i could not remove the connector. After a struggle, i successfully pulled the connection. 7 out of 15 pins were corroded and snapped off in the female connection, this was the cause of all my problems. I figured finding parys would be easy, but no, the closest i could get was your post. I was able to retrieve a part number for the internal harness from you, but not the connector female housing or any of the terminals. After many days of research and help from conicelli toyota i came up with a parts list. Some guy on ebay sells a pigtail but he wants $175 for it and $15 to ship, but you can do it yourself for under 100. A man named Wayne Colonna had addressed this issue in This Article
The part number for the internal harness is now updated to what i have below.

Internal harness: 82125-60650

Cinnector housing: 90980-12293

Terminals: 82998-24250

It is an easy job to do yourself, if any questions let me know. Thank you!

Any conclusion on this one?

I just picked up an 05 V8 that drove fine but threw a code for solenoid D. I reset the code, and it drove fine for awhile, but now it seems to be stuck in high gear.

It feel like it starts in 4th gear. No power at all from a stop either, just a crawl.

The most frustrating thing is that its intermittent. My mechanic cannot replicate the issue.

Check terminal on transmission left side. Release latch on back of while lever then flip lever down and pull up, inspect terminal male and female, will need inspection mirror or camera and may have to remove the front propeller shaft, i have big hands so that was necessary.
