transmission soleniod harness connector help, please

My V8 2004 engine seized up unfortunately when it overheated. It accumulated 350,000 mi so it still had a good life. I am swapping out a used engine from a totaled salvage vehicle and there's only one thing left for me to finally rev my old girl up....

Looking for wiring details for the transmission soleniod harness connector. This is the connector on the outside of the transmission housing that is part of the main wiring harness. Need to reconnect the wires to the connector but have no idea which color wire goes to which pin on the connector. Found a vendor selling a pigtail replacement but still need to figure out the matching OEM wire colors since the replacement wires appear to be all blue.

From the electrical manual it looks like J29, J30, J35, or J36. Which are all one connector.

The part number for that is:
90980-11915

That's my guess which you would need to double check.

Thanks. I looked up that part but the soleniod harness connector has 8 pins on top and 7 on the bottom. But even if that was the part, that still leaves me with the problem that I can't figure out which color wire goes to which pin (like the issue with the blue wires that I have). Any idea how I can find a legend for the solenoid harness? Thank you!

The electrical section of the FSMs are a main b1tch to find. I've been looking forever. Probably be easier to find a picture on the net or video of someone dealing with that connector.

I downloaded the electrical FSM and that's what I was going off of to give the initial post. You need that manual to move forward. It's easy enough to follow with a little bit of time.

Also, I think if you drop trans pan, disconnect wire harness from solenoids you can pull the harness out and possibly thread a new one back in. Watch some youtube videos on trans rebuild.

Quite honestly I would go with what rdruss suggested. That connector is a known problem area for corrosion, and with that many miles, there's a fairly good chance you've got some green goop on the pins just waiting to cause trouble. Replace both halves of the harness, that way you won't have to mess with splicing wires and causing more opportunity for moisture to get in there and cause shifting issues.

how were you able to unclip that tranny connector.. is it a straight pull upwards?. its really in a tough location, been unable to unclip the harness to continue trouble shooting the p0977 on my truck

You may have to use your phone as a periscope of sorts... but if you look at the "outside" of the harness (facing the drivers side) you should see what looks like a little handle. If you push the button and raise that upwards, it will release the latch and it should slide straight up.

Be VERY GENTLE with this. The pins in there may be a little stuck and you don't want to break them off. Spray it all with DeOxit and let it dry before putting it together. And rub a little dilectric grease on the seal too. You don't want moisture getting in there -- that's where like 90% of transmission electrical problems come from.

yes, i have seen the handle, even wiggled it and tried to pull it upwards, it didnt budge. you mention a button-to push. where exactly is this button?

Dropped the pan and drained and refilled. Then did another drain and refill 500 miles later. Car drives fairly ok now, even did a 300mile round trip recently, smooth shifting. Yet error code refused to go away, erased it several times, even unplugged the battery. Also removed the suspect solenoid from the tranny and tested it.tested ok with 12v and read 14.6ohm. So i wonder what the issue is, perhaps the cable tranny or ecm side.

Am still unable to unplug the cable harness, perhaps will try and buy the replacement cable harness to see if that will give me some insight in unplugging it. just not keen on spending money buying a part i may not need

I also ran across this video and subscribed to his channel at that time plus another video that also cut the sheet metal to get to the connector and replaced a pin or two, but it's been a few years ago and I couldn't find them when I posted my post you quoted, but this seems to be the best approach to fixing the issue without replacing the harnesses.

so how where you able to resolve this.
i discovered a snapped cable on my harness as well. the pins are shiny and zero corrosion, so i think changing the harness is the easier option.

i intend to simply follow the route of the old harness, cut and splice the cables sequentially. not so sure why you think you need extr electrical disgrams for the splice and swap

I know this is an old thread, but I'm in exactly the same position you were. Swapped engines but missed the main transmission connector when pulling the engine and pulled all the wires out of the connector. Now have everything put back together, but don't know which wires go to which terminal. I've gone through all of the suggested videos everyone posted, but there isn't a really clear picture on any of them as to which color wires go to which pin-out position in the connector. Can anyone get a pic of theirs, or have a clear diagram of where they go. Thanks so much in advance. Engine runs great, but with no tranny obviously can't take it anywhere yet
