I bought a used 1997 4runner Limited, 4x4,(elocker), Auto, 3.4l. 200Kmiles.
Literally 50 miles after I bought it the tranny began acting up making noises. Mechanic diagnosed the torque converter. He pulled the pan and found metal shavings. So I found a replacement one from the salvage yard (with elocker). They sell them complete with transfer case still attached. So- out with the old, in with the new one...then, OOOPS. The drive shaft position is 4" too long!!! What the ??? Obviously the salvage yard sold me the wrong tranny? My mechanic didn't catch the difference. So what would you do? What tranny is this? So bummed...

Should. But not your only issue. '01-'02 has multimode transfer case. I could be wrong but I believe it's at least partially computer controlled.

Hear that noise?...It's the sound of my forehead banging against the desk.
What about exchanging transfer cases?
