Transmission vs front differential issue?

Hi there. I'm new to this forum and it's my first time posting. I have a 2004 V8 limited with 153k on it. The last couple of months I've noticed a sort of single shake or bump that occurs when I'm coming to a complete stop. It also happens occasionally when accelerating. It doesn't happen every time and sometimes it is stronger than others. I thought it might be the transmission but the truck shifts through gears perfectly. Never had a leak from the transmission. I've took it to a transmission specialist in NC where I live and he drove it around for about ten minutes. Of course the feeling didn't occur until near the end of the ride. He didn't think it was the transmission but possibly the differential. He has another guy that also diagnoses problems and wants me come back this week to have him take a look to be sure. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and able to diagnose? Has anyone had to rebuild a transmission or had it rebuilt? Has anyone rebuilt differential or had it replaced? Thanks in advanced!

I've noticed something similar with my 2005 v8 but it's very difficult to detect. It seems like the transmission downshifting to me.

Do not be alarmed... Do not worry about this... 4x 4th gen 4runners in the family and they all do this. Someone said that greasing the slip joint in the axle helps, but mine tends not to... Now while I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee, it occurs to me - What if there is too much grease in the slip joint and there is a vacuum/suction occuring here as it bottoms out? I've never cared enough to diagnose.

Bottom line, this is a very very common complaint on 4th gen which is in no way indicative of a failure and you will hear this sound for the rest of all time or until someone determines actual root cause and posts a fix here. One of ours at 280k miles, has been bumping since we noticed it around 50k, this vehicle has never had any axle nor U joint nor driveshaft nor transfer case service, still bumps just the same and no problems.
