Transmission Woes

Yesterday I decided to go out, and give everything a once over just to make certain I didn't see anything going on. I checked the fluid level, and it was right where it should. The fluid was also a good red color, and that's a good sign. I did notice a very slight burnt smell, but I don't feel that's anything too alarming given the issues that I'm having.

I also did a little looking around, and all the transmissions I'm seeing in the area are $1300+. I know the 3rd Gen 4runners are considered gold, but $1300+ for a grade C transmission is out of this world. I'm going to have it looked at, and try to get a professional opinion I can trust. I just don't see myself paying that kind of money for my 2nd replacement transmission.

You should join some local Toyota or 4Runner Facebook groups. (Toyota Buy/Sell/Trade etc) I belong to a few locally & always see stuff going for good prices.

The saga continues. It seems that the sound I'm hearing isn't from the transmission, so that's good.

After jacking up the front while installing new UCA's I noticed something. I spun the passenger side wheel, and found the source of my whirling sound. Since I replaced the front wheel bearing about 2 years ago I don't think that's my problem. I now think I have an issue with the front diff bearing on the passenger side.

Check your kick down cable I am dealing with trans issue as we speak and after dropping the trans and reinstalling it the kick down cable loosened up after the original adjustment. 4TH Gear shift was so hard u could pull teeth.

01-02 don't have kickdown cables to adjust.
