Local shop here in town suggested I use a locally owned Aamco that has been around since the late 60's. Everyone had good reviews on it, so the truck has been there for a day. Recieved a call saying the truck does in fact have a grinding noise along with no movement and just wanted to tell me that $1650.00 is the cost of the basic overhaul kit, and any extra hard parts will be more. He said kit contains most bushings, seals, etc. and things like torque converter, bearings, etc. will be more. He said wanted to let me know because the basic overhaull kit is most likely not going to rememedy a grinding noise such as the one I've got. He mentioned something about my differential and I let him know that I'm pretty sure my diff's are fine, and the noise is nowhere near my front diff. It is basically underneath and forward of my gear shift. Maybe he was talking about my center diff, but I doubt it. Anyway, still down and wondering how much the damage will be. As far as used transmissions, where do you find them, and do most shops let you show up with one and ask that it be put in? I wouldnt know where to start, and am afrain of running into a bad one.
