Transporting Plywood Sheets

Hey Folks,

Have you guys loaded and transported 4x8 plywood sheets in the T4r?

Throw them on top of the car. Center the pieces of course, and tie them down with two straps door-to-door, and two more from front of rack, over the wood, to the back of the rack.

Use Foam spacers in the front if you have some. I put them right in front of the rack on the hood, then set the boards on top.

Drive cautiously and it will work good.

Also, be very careful loading them. That is the hardest part! Get 2 or 3 hands to help you.

Of course the easier way would be to convince your truck-owning friend that he should go to the lumber yard with you. :bigok:

4x8 sheets of plywood will fit in the back nicely. Just drop the seats and load them on top of the wheel well. the liftgate wont close all the way, just get some rope and tie the strap to the hitch and your set. I will be doing this again this week to finish off the basement!!!

Perfect fit

It is as if they made it just the right size to slide some in the back. I didn't have any problems with the rear closing.

A sheet definitely wont fit in the window with the liftgate closed. But it does slide nicely over top the wheelwells and hangs out a foot or so out the back. Just like bowhunter said, tie it down to the hitch.

Ok, so maybe I'm just too new to know the differences between the different years and styles, but I didn't have any trouble closing the rear door with a standard sheet. That or I've had a little too much tonight and I don't remember that my door wasn't closed when I transported my cargo home.

There's just under 6' to the rear door from the back of the front seats when they're in the most rearward position. Plywood comes in 8' lengths- It wasn't a full sheet, the door was open or your way too short to be driving!!!:biggrin2:

I was a little inebrated when I read this and replied. I actually had the sheets cut in half. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.
By the way, they fit very well when cut in half
