Trasharoo Placement

I was curious if anyone is using a Trasharoo without a spare tire hitch? If so, where are you guys placing the Trasharoo? I just purchased one for a trip to Zion next week because we'll be disperse camping for 3 nights. I'm assuming I can place it on my factory roof rack, but was curious if anyone had a better spot for it. Thanks

I recently installed a ladder for the sole purpose of attaching a Trasharoo. I think you could get away with securing to the roof rack but it might not be a bad idea to also throw one of those stretch cargo nets over it to help keep it in place.

Depending on how you feel about your paint you could probably throw the Trasharoo strap around the entire hatch, but it'll be dangling down on the paint the whole trip :-/

Get a ladder like all the other cool guys.

Ladder is the most common option. You will lose usable space in the trasharoo.
You can also wrap on back with the window down. That is if you want the window down and the trasharoo against the paint.
Also seen it just hanging over the side from the roof rack. Again against the paint and/or window though.

I'm planning the same thing as you - here's the path people seem to have to take with ladders ... 1) get ladder, 2) get trasheroo, 3) realize that the trasheroo and ladder are to heavy to lift the rear door, 4) replace OEM struts with stronger struts.

That's great for some folks who are interested in a ladder regardless, but I just want to get the trash out of the truck, so it's a bit more than I want to do there. Currently I throw it in a bag and put the bag in a mostly air-tight plastic container, but that takes up room.

I might just get a duffel bag instead - same basic idea but maybe a bit easier to just bungie cord to the roof.

Appreciate the input. I plan on getting getting a Gobi Roof Rack (currently just have the factory one) and a Gobi ladder next year. Trasharoo scheduled to arrive tomorrow. So Ill play around with it to see if I can find a better placement. I'll report back if I have any luck

I saw RSG posted a truck with one mounted to the hatch - I was actually thinking of asking this same question.

Has anyone mounted on the hatch and if so, are you seeing paint damage?

I use a soft sided cooler, seals in the smell and doesn't put me in the ladder to no where category.

I also repack items and bury waste food (peels, leftovers) to have minimal trash.

I’ve seen a similar setup keeping the back window down.
I can’t find the pic, but I met someone at expo that had it in the same location and used strap extenders to strap around the entire rear door (like pic on previous post). I did like that the buckles were inside the vehicle on that setup. I had some more pictures with other angles. Did not see any paint damage.

That one is interesting because you can get it in different heights. I bet the 20" one could be mount so it only contacts the window, so even less chance of damage to paint.

You could also get a good, heavy duty dry bag and keep it inside. I'd vote for the roof rack since you already have a trasharoo on the way. I have one in my closet that I haven't figured out how to mount yet either.

going to REI. pick up a yakima basket and throw the trasharoo in there.
when youre done with your trip. return the basket. make sure youre a member. not sure if you can return used if not a member....

So you want to use REI as a rental outfit? Have you no integrity at all? REI used to have a great return policy but too many people abused it so they changed it.
