TRD 17" on Limited?

Please do not get angry with me for asking this question. I read hundreds of posts about 20" wheels on Limited and issues with the 7" wheel. I'll be taking delivery of 2015 Limited in a few weeks. I live in a rural part of my state and do not feel that stock tires will meet my needs. I do not do "wheelings", but I have to go to unplowed areas on country roads sometimes and I also go to remote areas for fishing and hunting. On my current SR5 Premium I have 265/70R17 and they are fine. Call me a chicken, but 275/55R20, which looks really nice on 20" is not a option. I actually called Toyota headquaters with VIN number and they confirmed that my vehicle has 7" wheels and they do not recommend to put larger tire on it. BTW Toyota technical documentation for 2015 Limited states that wheels are 7.5"!!!
Anyways here is my question:
"Is there any down side to installing 17" TRDs (PTR20-35110-GR) on Limited?"
Question is about this brand, not general 17" wheels.
I am already mad that I did not do research before the ordering of Limited and now I have to go through this hassle, like paying 41K is not enough,LOL

Personally, the 20's do look nice on the stock height Limited especially since it has a lower a lower front bumper, sides and rears. I prefer smaller wheels when lifted and of coarse the optimized functionality of it's contacts and side walls.

But to answer your question, there's no downside to running the TRD Pro wheels. Your tires size will be the factor. [MENTION=115334]Mistaken[/MENTION] has the TRD wheels on his limited.

I also have a limited and plan on putting a bigger tire on it. I am pretty sure the rims you are asking about will work fine. There are a few members on here that have 275-55-R20 tires with no issues. I personally will also be upgrading to the exact tire size, but michelins.

I have hot rodded and raced for years, putting a lot of tire on different rims. Just because I could does not mean I should have, but I really do not see 1/2 inch making that much difference. Liability and litigation concerns are a major reason for all of the disclaimers on any new product today.

I am not a professional and not a Toyota or tire designer, just offering my thoughts.

If you want to save a few bucks just get a set of the 14+ Trail wheels used and whatever tire meets your needs, then sell your LE wheels and tires. The tire shop can swap your pressure sensors when putting the new tires on the rims. Just another option versus the TRD's.

You have a good point and I could save couple hundred of bucks on such deal. I kind of like a look of TRDs in Gray (my new ride comes in metallic gray too) and of course I'll be selling my 20"s here on classifieds or on eBay. I checked the going price and it does not look that I 'll be loosing too much money. Even some Tacoma guys are buying 20" from LE for Tacos

Yeah I bet you'd save a decent amount going Trail over the TRD. I sold my LE wheels on CL, other than a couple crazy inquiries I had three serious offers all at good prices (more than the new wheels cost) they were sold in a week.

Yeah I bet you'd save a decent amount going Trail over the TRD. I sold my LE wheels on CL, other than a couple crazy inquiries I had three serious offers all at good prices (more than the new wheels cost) they were sold in a week.

I am thinking about it now. I can get TRDs for $750 for four. How much for the new Trails?

The mileage didn't take a hit at all, handling is about the same, and the ride is smoother than with the 20"s. I had both the Michelin AT2s and the Cooper AT3s on my last 4Runner and seriously thought about going with one of those again, but with my current job I'm driving about 25K a year so I wanted the best ride/mileage possible. If I ever get a job closer to home I'd eventually like to go back with an AT tire, but right now I don't have any complaints with the LTX's. BTW, I really wanted the TRD wheels but I found a deal too good to pass up with the Trail wheels!

For the longest time I was going to keep my 20"s and get the Cooper Discoverer AT3s in the 265/60R20s but when I did the math on how much weight I would be adding per corner, I changed my mind. Now I am going to be selling my 20"s and either getting the TRD or the FN Pro (TRD replica) wheels and getting the 255/75R17 AT3s so my gas mileage doesn't suffer as much and I still get a nice AT tire.

I think the handling has been great, it is at least the same as the Limited wheel/tire combo if not better. I went the A/T route as far as tires and have noticed probably a 1+ mpg drop but until I can get [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION] to review my data I will not know for sure. :hatsoff: TRD wheels look a lot better imo but I do like the Trail wheels for the price.
