I guess it is referred to as a Hydrocarbon filter.

oh yes, i briefly read through that thread awhile back. i dont feel that filter is restricting anything enough to warrant removing it.

Driving on the highway it is almost silent. However,
driving in the suburbs stop and go you can tell it’s there.

IMHO that's the perfect combination: loud when you're on the throttle, silent when you're not. No 'drone' at highway speeds is great. Glad it's working out for you.
