TRD Exhuast

Partznet.com sells on ebay and I noticed they were selling the v6 with a best offer bid. I put what I thought was a best offer and they accepted so I bought it. The bid was for a new TRD exhuast so I was stoked. They communicated well, were fast to respond to emails and shipped rather fast. I ordered this item about a week ago and received it today.

What I took order of was a trd box with all the proper numbers on it it was busted in a couple spots with the flanges and a couple hangers exposed, I was kind of bummed out but figured hey its an exhuast it' going to get beat up a bit. I opened it on my lunch break and it was dirty, packaged well and everything was accounted for but the only thing protected was the chrome trd tip. I thought that was a little weird, I pulled the instructions out and noticed they were for an FJ cruiser and thought well the box numbers match the 4runner, easy mistake right? I went emailed the seller that t seemed like a used exhaust or even a factory exhaust with a trd tip welded onto it.

I came home a short while ago and pulled it out of the box to verify thing, it is completely dirty (like it was previously installed), the muffler has toyota stamped on it which seems weird since it's a TRD product, the muffler is dented and scratched, there is oil in one of the downpipe flange area and a weird flattend out spot on the downpipe which looks like it may be should be that way but I am not sure. It's strange there are toyota stickers on the pipe and muffler and seems semi legit. I emailed them again knowing they may not have read the first one yet with my new findings.

Anyway what I am trying to get to is, has anyone dealt with them with either positive or negaitve feedback? I went with them because it was a good price (in my mind at least), they are a site sponser, and their communication was good. I am relatively new to toyotas and the 4runner so I might have f'd up going with these guys, but I am not trying to bash them. I hope the respond soon and take care of the situation. what does everyone here think?

Sorry to sound ingorant and carry on but can anyone with tthe v6 trd exhuast confirm the muffler is stamped toyota. I tried to search before I posted the main rant above and I forgot to add this in. Thanks in advance fror any responses here

I've never bought from them through auction, but I've bought from their online site a few times with good outcomes. Others have had issues, but all my transactions went well.

Did the ebay auction state that it was NIB (new in box) or anything like that? I'm pretty sure the TRD Exhaust is stamped as TRD and not Toyota.

If they don't respond to your email, try to give them a call. Sorry only advice I could give... Hope it works out for you and keep us posted...

Yeah I appriciate your repsonse. the auction said "New" and I went back to double check it, no where on it did it say used or refurbished or anything. in fact you can still find it with 8 left for sale last time i checked.

as for not responding , I just emailed them today/tonight I know they are east coast and I am west coast. I am not upset with not hearing back yet I understand it takes a day or so. I just hope they make good. It does bum me out that others have had problems though.

If anyone else has anything to add that would be great, how were your expericences?

Partznet has an awesome return procedure. They even paid for shipping for the damaged part and shipped me the new part in advance! Ask for tom if you have any issues because he handled my situation very well in terms of customer satisfaction and speed to correct the issue.

Interesting sharp, I just checked your link and it came up as canceled by ebay???? did you type it in wrong?

ptung, I am glad to hear they have a good return policy that makes me feel better.

I actually just received am email from them, they asked for pictures, hopefully I can get that out to them and its all good. Again I am not trying to bash them or anything I like to give vendors a chance to own up if something is incorrect. It's just good business right?

I cant' be of much help except to tell you to save that url page as an archive so that if you have to provide evidence of your auction, you will have a printout of the page.

The TRD catback exhaust for the FJ is made by Bosal. The tip does have TRD embossed into it, but the muffler canister has BOSAL stamped into it. I've seen port installed TRD exhausts with the red/white toyota part number sticker on them, but never have I seen "TOYOTA" stamped into the TRD exhaust. I'm not familiar with the TRD exhaust for the t4r, but I'd imagine that the same supplier, bosal, makes them for the t4r. The

Well it sounds like the exhaust is legit to be honest with you. When you say it is dirty, how dirty is it? I know my TRD had a oil-like film on it and the muffler is NOT stamped with Toyota. Like SupraTuRD said its made by Bosal and so the weld quality does not look great, but it works. As for the instructions, the FJ and the 4R share the same exhaust as that is exactly what came in my order from my parts guy at Elmore Toyota. I hope that helps, and let us know what you mean by dirty to see what you're talking about. Some pictures would be nice to see and I could help verify since I did buy one brand new from Elmore and could be of help.

This may help out, but this is a definitive test to determine if the exhaust is used or not. Check th einside of the exhaust either by the tip or the begining where it attaches to the cats. See if there is any exhuast soot residue inside the pipe. If at first, you cant detect any, use a clean white rag or paper towel. If it comes out a blackish/brown color, then it has been used. The amount of soot will determine if it has been installed and used for a while, or if it was installed and briefly tested. If you get a light brownish color that looks like a grease stain, then it hasnt been used but thats the coating that manufacturers apply as a corosive resistant barrier. Hope this helps out..good luck..

thanks for all the responses here are some pics, and one showing the muffler with toyota stamped in. I just looked under my 4runner and the exhaust does look different. I might be wrong but I don't know. I am trying to get pics up so bear with me a minute

damn I noticed it is stamped bosal like supra said. maybe I effed up. I was about to post up a couple more pictures showing other things I noticed that I thought was "wrong"

Thanks for everyones help and interest here. I guess I was wrong. I am going to email partznet and tell them I effd up.

From the two pics, the exhaust looks new. They should have packed it better though to prevent the ding. Was each piece wrapped in foam? My Magnaflow exhaust was very well packed when I received it and had no dings.

Yeah looks A-OK, I have the single outlet on my SR5 V6 and we love it. All I can tell you is when you take apart the stock one, have plenty of patience and plenty o' muscle because those damn bolts on the rear portion seem to be super overtightened from the factory. I'm in SOCal and could stop by if you need help installing. ENJOY!

Thanks for the replies, yeah I was expecting each piece to be individually packaged, and surrounded by foam or something protective. This wsa pretty sloppily package and that's part of what tripped me out, then seeing the toyota stamp, the dirt everywhere, but when someone mentioned that bossal makes the trd exhaust that made me feel better.

I finally said f- it i bought it for less than its usually sold for, I got a deal, now I know it's legit who cares if it is dirty and dinged its going to happen anyway.
