TRD OIl Filter (HUGE)!

I call the Toyota dealer where I get these TRD filter from and they said that it will fit both 2003-04 V8 and V6 motor . so I order 3 of them. So I got them today and when i went to open the box OMG! the TRD filter is like twice the size of the stock filter? Is this the right filter for my car?? I mean this thing is HUGE!:bugeye:

I'm sure you could call TRD to double check. The gaskets do seem to line up properly, although it's hard to tell from the picture you gave (second one).

I don't think I've ever seen an oversized filter like that. I mean, I've seen them be 'taller' from one filter to the next, but never wider. I guess I always figured the gasket and inlets would not match up correctly but looks like they might have solved that.

I'd really love you if you cut one open so we can see if it's the same synthetic organic media used in the stock filter. If so, then I'd say you have a winner. If not, then I'm not sure if the TRD filter is better, even if it is bigger. It may just flow better, which isn't always a good thing.

I'd be happy to cut one open for you and then post pics. I have a oil filter cutter that cuts filters open very precisely for inspection purposes.

I do not think that will fit the V8. The stock just bearly fits. It's the OD that I am concerned about. What do they cost?

One of those links says it's a replacement for the OEM# 90915-YZZB5, and the other one says it's a replacement for the 90914-20004 filter.

I think the YZZB5 was the replacement for the 90914-20004, so it seems to be the correct filter, just one of those websites needs to be updated with the new OEM filter number.

I still wanna know if it's a synthetic filtering media similar to the OEM filter. None of those sites really say.

I would love to cut one apart but all i have is a heck saw? they cose $8 ship for 0ne. the bottom rubber is about 1 to 2 mm larger then the stock also the little hole around the bottom are larger then the one on the stock filter. that all i can tell from the outside. This is waht I got ouff TRD website.......

Toyota/Mitsubishi of Goldsboro 800-951-3232 . They are the cheapest around. $8 ship so it's like paying the same price for a regular oil filter ship.

I have not try it yet. waiting for my next oil change about 3k to go. but just by eye balling it i said it should fit with about 2 mm left around the oil filter tray thing on the V6. it pronely going to be a perfect fit but not tight. also the gasket is pretty wider then the one on the stock filter as you can see in the picture.

I have a couple of the big TRD oil filters, and they do not fit under my sport edition. The anti-roll bar gets in the way of starting the threads. I am unwilling to remove the bar to install the filter.

OK I just remove the stock oil filter and install the TRD filter.( Since it was on top and easy to remove and I cant waite another 3k miler) The TRD filter fit PERFECTLY around the oil thing on the V6!! If you look at the 2th picture that where the TRD gasket lay on the oil filter thing. so After I install the TRD filter I put about 1/4 of a bottom Mobil 1 back into the motor and stated this baby up. My 4R been siting all night it has not been started yet today. so I started the motor and right away i notice that the 4R is idling very smoother then before when you start it cold. It does not have that little shake like it use to when you first start it up cold anymore!! also that little knocking noise when the motor is cold is going too! and no leak around the filter! This baby is good to go! For $8 a filter I 'll buy it again and again! Now it's time to take the 4R for a drive!!!:bouncy2:

Very nice! I just had my oil changed and filter changed, but I'm interested in installing one the next time around. Keep us updated on the performance of it. Thanks!
