TRD Pro - Front Coils Measurements

Hi all -

Looking for a little help here from anyone who has pulled off the TRD Pro front COs or may have access to a set off their rig. I need unweighted / non-loaded measurements on the length of the front springs. Bonus points for anyone finding a verifiable OEM spec listing (i.e. spring rate, etc.), which I'm not sure even exists but seems like it should.

I know there are a few Toyota techs in the house... can anyone direct me?

I have measurements. 3" ID, 13" length. Should be 550# springs IIRC. If you're looking to boost the weight capacity and get a slightly higher lift, King 3x14" 650# springs should do the trick.

I'll add pics of measurements later when I find them, looked into doing something similar when I first got the truck.

We are looking at making 1" and 2" lift replacements over those same coils, to give people some more options, and not have to lose those struts.

We haven't yet been able to verify if we have any existing coils that will do the job. If anyone has a set of those coils that they don't need or are willing to sell, please let me know.

Sorry this took a little digging. I took these measurements a while back when I wanted to get a small lift out of the TRDP and up the load rating on the coils. As mentioned, closest off the shelf coil you'll find is a 3x14 spring commonly found by King.

The stock TRDP front shocks are nearly identical to the Bilstein 6112. The difference is that the two higher spring perches are omitted from the TRD shocks.

Toytec makes a 1 and 2" spacer which is does essentially the same as a higher spring perch and should give a 1-2" lift. You'll gain a little more preload translating to a slightly stiffer ride, and get a little less uptravel.

Also, from what I was told by the Bilstein tech, the valving is different (and are not digressive) in the 6112 vs the TRDP shocks. Plus the springs are 600# made by Eibach for Bilstein, .

Yeah that's correct. The newer design of the 6112 has 7 circlip settings though.

You are correct, sorry. My 6112 had 5 circlip settings, TRDP shocks had only 2.

6112 came with Eibach 600# springs, 3" ID, 14" length.
TRDP came with TRD 550-600# springs, 3" ID, 13" length.

Not sure about the valving, both felt the same to me. When I compared the two visually at least side by side they were near identical.

This is what I've been looking for. I have no complaints with the stock Bilsteins for my needs. But I would like to get a mild lift without going the spacer route. My thinking was that if it's being accomplished with spacers, it should be doable with springs too, but I'm new to this.

I guess the other part of my question is for those here that have experience with this sort of thing, is there any reason why this could be a bad idea? Is it reasonable thinking to try this? I'm not necessarily looking to add weight anywhere at the moment, just more lift while keeping the TRD Bilsteins.

Any updates on this? Interested. Currently have the Toytec Pro lift (front is just spacers). Looking at adding a bumper/winch soon. Not crazy about spacers but don't wanna shell out $ for new coilovers. Swapping coils would be a great option if it worked.

So in theory if you did a 600lb 14in spring on the trdpro struts (passenger or driver setting) it would be similar​ to the 6112s at the 4th or 5th setting(old ones) or like 6th or 7th (new).

Just my theory but I'm not tearing mine apart anytime soon since I have KDSS.

Posted in post #12. Bilsteins ship with a 600# 14"x3" ID coil. Use the TRDP 1" Toytec spacer in conjunction with the new coil to get higher lift. If you use the spring by itself it won't lift much- maybe about an inch or less.

Edit 10/4/18 - Company decided to only make 1" stock weight lifted front coils, part C59-748R


UPDATE:

Coil specs and measuring are all done, and we will be producing new coils for the TRD Pro front ends to pick them up the proper way. As it turns out, we have a rear coil that's virtually identical to a TRD Pro too, and already in stock. The front coils are not off the shelf though.

So for anyone wanting to run 6112's and build their own "TRD Pro Kit", we will have the right coils to suit that setup and be a bit taller. I'll post up more details when I have them.
