Trd pro suspension on my 4th gen

Ok so here is what I’ve been working with on my new to me 4Runner.

I started with a slightly used trd pro suspension bought from a member here.
This is it after the trd pro suspension install with fj rear springs. Not the look I wanted so I searched for a leveling kit.

So I bought a toytec leveling kit and top spacer.
I’ve had a fair amount of interest in the setup so I figured I would post it here to help others.

My setup is:
Used trd pro 4Runner shocks with trd pro stock front springs
O’Reilly auto parts fj cruiser rear springs roughly $70 for the pair
Bilstein 5160 resivoir clamps amazon $50

Toytec Part numbers for leaving the front:
BAJA1-B
TOP1-T
TAC-DR-05 Diff drop kit

Kind of a bummer, how's it ride? Preloading the spring with those $160 spacers, plus 1/2" top plates to sit level?

Personally, that sucks you have to spend $200 in spacers, plus $80 for 2 rear reservoir clamps, that's almost what the whole Pro suspension kit costs. I just paid $540 shipped, now it's $300 for some little spacers and clamps? :suspicious:

I feel like there should be a more cost effective way. They advertise the 1/2" top plate at about 3/4" lift, then 1" leveling spring mounts, so right at about 1.75 over baseline.

They make 1.25" top plate spacers for only $40. If there was a more cost effective method to preload it just 1/4" or a bit more, it would be MUCH cheaper.

There are these which advertise either 2" or 2.5" lift, without changing spring pre-load. At either 25% or 50% of the cost of those spacers, has anyone used this setup instead?

Seems like at least 5 of us will be throwing this stuff on..

Are you running stock 265/65 17 in the first photo?

Yeah first photo is with stock tires. I agree had I known that it would need $200 in extras I would have probably gone a different route. It rides great cant complain about that, it is way more stable at freeway speeds. I figured I would share this with everyone so they can have some info I didnt have before trying this setup. Overall now that its done im pleased but it needed some tweaks thats for sure.

Two comments:

1. The TRD Pro front shocks (or coilovers) are the same as the Bilstein 6112 except that the 6112's are height adjustable. Too late for you I know, but for those considering this for the future, get the 6112's. With the 6112 set at the max height and FJ coils in the rear, my 4Runner is pretty much level and rides awesome.

2. You might want to reconsider using those reservoir mounts you're using for your rear shocks. I have a similar set up using Icon shocks. When I posted a picture of them on my Instagram account, Icon DM'd me and told me they do not recommend mounting the reservoirs to the shocks like that.

On our 4Runners, their is nothing to prevent the shocks from rotating and reservoir or hose could catch on the tire/wheel and cause bad things to happen. I suspect, but do not know, that is why the 5th Gens have the reservoir mounted to the frame rail. If you buy 5160's directly from Bilstein, they come with mounts and clamps to mount them to the frame rail.

I just bought the mounts and will be moving my reservoirs next weekend. This weekend, I choose to live dangerously and am am going to the desert!!

I'm having an issue here, I got two bushing plates for the shocks in the rear. I enlarged the frame to 1", but in your pic, I see you have some type of bushing on top and bottom of the pocket. How did you get 2 per side? I got 2 total with my suspension kit.

The shock needs what you have or it doesn't fit, any part number to order the other two?

IMHO I think it looks good, all you really needed afterwards was some larger tires and to remove your running boards

? Part number?? Suspension Kit - Toyota (PTR13-35140)

Is this the kit you all are using, Suspension Kit - Toyota (PTR13-35140), or is there something else? Saw this on the 5th gen page, but wasn’t sure it would work on my ‘04.

Was looking at picked the kit it up on eBay or from a member here if I can find one at or near what cost was at clearance. If not, I need to decide what route to go on my suspension. Just a mild 2-3” lift with some light off-roading or just refresh what I have with Ranchos to help level it out.
