TRD Pro vs SR5 maintenance/repairs

No, They are 99.93% the same truck

Edit: Per 1engineer 's detailed calculations I was wrong, the correct parts interchange is 93.934316% and is beyond contestation unless you have documentation to prove otherwise

Doesn't it have more expensive components which justify the higher price tag?

NO. All the part time 4wd 5th gen 4runners are pretty much the same truck and will cost about the same to maintain over time.

Pro - is a trail with different shocks, springs, tires, wheels
Trail - is an sr5 with a rear elocker, there is also an option for KDSS on this model only
SR5 - is the base model but really all the same components, just missing a few options like the e-locker and KDSS

The only thing that could be potentially more expensive to repair in the long run is the KDSS system.

The Pro will demand the highest sale price (compared to what you actually get). It's called marketing.

Is it true that there is only a .5" difference on height between the SR5 and TRD?

Yes. More expensive shocks, springs, a better and IMPRINTED TRD skid plate, a different grill, and of course those unobtainium cast TRD Pro emblems.

Get a set of Bilstein 5100's for your SR5, set em at .85" for a "close to Pro" look, or go with 1.75" and stand out in the crowd. I got 3 of these from Amazon for mine. I am reliably informed they are good for another 5HP just by sticking them on the body.

You weren't wrong but I wouldn't expect a guy with only a master's from MIT to carry the significant digits....

LOL I was gonna say something about sig figs, but you beat me to the punch. :roadkill: I guess my smartass credits are burned for the night.

OP: The question is really a non issue. The initial starting price is so much higher on the TRD that overall maintenance costs should not really matter. If you went all stock, the suspension and the recommended tires alone on the TRD would cost more over time, but initial the $8k+ out the door puts the TRD in a different price point all together. That said, the stock for stock maintenance costs will be the highest (over time) on the Trail and Limited due to KDSS and XREAS respectively. That said, anyone on here will probably opt to replace those expensive components with aftermarket items (that cost less while providing the same effect) in the event of a major failure.

Don't get me wrong, but most people who buy the TRD will never use the components that it has to over over the SR5. They will buy it for its looks since all the necessary mods are already done and covered under warranty.

Wouldn't a TRD be more pricey to maintain and repair over time?

Correct answer(s) is/are:

1. Compared to what? A JGC perhaps?

B. Depends. Depends on how often you take it to the mall, and stress-pose it on one of those parking lot berms, or piles of snow.

We do try to write in complete sentences and use basic grammar and punctuation rules in the 5th generation section. Maybe that's why you think we are not so nice?
